Wet all the hair and wash thoroughly with shampoo, using the hottest water tolerable. Scrub the scalp, especially behind the ears and at the base of the head. Towel off the extra water.

2 Measure about 1/2 cup of natural apple cider vinegar. With the hair hanging down over a sink, pour the vinegar onto the scalp, making certain you saturate the roots of all the hair. Wrap a towel around the hair, and leave it on for 30 minutes.

3 Remove the towel and rinse out the vinegar. Towel dry with a fresh towel.

4 With a fine-tooth comb, separate a very small section of hair at a time, examining for nits. Nits are the small, teardrop-shaped eggs of the lice that are stuck to the hair, close to the scalp. They do not fall out, you have to pick them off with tweezers. Start combing sections on one side of the head, and work around to the middle, then start again on the other side. Lice especially like to lay their eggs in the area above and behind the ears, and at the back of the head.

5 Have a damp paper towel nearby to put the nits on as you remove them. Dispose of, and get it out of your house! Be sure to wash in hot water all towels and bed linens that were exposed to the lice, as well as brushes, combs and hair accessories.

From working in a physician's office, I am well aware of how sticky the eggs can be, and how they can cling to the hair.Try this: Start with dry hair, and completely coat it with baby oil or cooking oil, and cover with a shower cap for about 4-6 hours....this smothers the lice, shampoo 2-3 times then to get all of the oil out, next rinse with vinegar and leave it on a few minutes (it disolves the glue in the eggs). Rinse it out, shampoo and condition again, comb out the nits, shampoo and condition again and you should have gotton them all.this is what we told patients who were not satisfied with the lice shampoos we prescribed for them, and this is defenitely more cost effective, just requires some time.

How to Get Rid of Head Lice You need to follow the following steps to rid yourself of head lice:

Page 9: Borax

Step 1:

Before starting with the hair cleaning process, you need to ensure that the work area is not carpeted and remove all rugs, towels or clothes that are lying around. The lice often tend to make homes in these items whenever they are disturbed.

Next, Tie you hair at the crown, if your hair is long.

Dip a cotton swab into a safe cleansing liquid and clean the ears and paint a ring around the outer portion of the ears and the hairline around the head. Keep the head dry and start at the nape of the neck along the hairline and keep saturating the hair, as you move towards the crown where the hair is tied.

Then apply the lice cleanser in a manner that saturates the hair completely. Massage the head properly and work till the lather is well formed.

Then comb through the hair, to ensure total coverage and tie or wrap the hair up again, at the crown.

Keep massaging the scalp at an interval of every ten minutes for about 30 to 40 minutes.

Reapply the cleanser and work till the lather is formed and follow the same process for 20 minutes.

Allow the cleanser to soak in and then rinse it off.

Dry your hair and comb it with a nit comb, in order to remove any remaining lice.

If possible do the nit picking in daylight and use hot water and a non-toxic liquid cleanser on the head.

Step 2:

Once the home based treatment for head lice has been completed, launder all jackets, clothing, bed linen, pillow covers, hair combs, brushes, doodads, rugs, ribbons and mats.

These should be washed at 140 degrees or you may not kill the eggs and lice that are lingering. In order to get the best results, pre-soak or pre-wash for at least 30 minutes before the final wash.

In addition to washing exposed items, vacuum clean the carpets, furniture and car seats and remove the plastic bags used in the vacuum cleaner immediately after finishing and properly dispose so you will not reinfect the home.

It is very important to eliminate the existence of lice from your body and the surrounding areas. This is the only way to get rid of the consistent irritation. Besides the natural treatment, proper sanitation and hygiene are very essential.

Apply tea tree oil and keep it for 2-3 hours. Rinse your hair after 2-3 hours. Try applying vinegar for head lice. Appling white vinegar on your scalp, and keep it for

2-3 hours, it helps to get rid of lice and nits. You can also apply vinegar and keep it overnight, and rinse it in the morning.

One of the most common lice treatments is using shampoos that contain special chemicals that are known to kill lice and their eggs. The ability of shampoo to kill eggs is very essential because even if the lice are eliminated but the eggs are left intact, there is the chance that the problem will recur.

There are chemicals such as insecticides that can now be applied in the head as a means of lice treatments. Such chemicals include lindane, malathion, and carbaryl. Though generally poisonous, these substances are created in a milder form in order to make them effective for use against head lice. However, these substances are slowly losing its luster because there have been reports if head lice resistance to the use of these chemicals.

There are various natural products that one can try for lice treatments. Such natural products include coconut, aniseed, neem, and tea tree oil. What makes these natural products nice in lice treatments is that these do not cause harmful effects on the scalp even with frequent use.

Blowing hot air into the head through a blower is one of the popular lice treatments that one can do at home. Hot air can kill both the lice and the eggs, thus making this procedure truly effective with 100 percent mortality of eggs and a near hundred percent mortality in head lice and hatched eggs.

also cause fevers in the person who has them. For this reason, it is necessary to get rid of head lice quickly and effectively.

Home Remedies for Head Lice

Page 11: Borax

Extract the juice of an onion in a small bowl. Apply this onion juice in the scalp of the head, massaging slowly at the hair roots. Let this juice remain in the hair for three to four hours. The pungent sulfur content of the onion juice will kill the parasites in the hair. Then have a good head bath to remove the dead lice from the scalp. Do this for three continuous days, since the nits (lice eggs) will not go in the first treatment. This is one of the useful home remedies for head lice.

Take a raw custard apple. Grind it into powder, with the seeds. You will need a heavy duty mixer grinder for this. Keep this powder stored in an airtight box. In the night before going to bed, apply this powder on the scalp, and tie your head with a cloth bandage. This will assuredly eliminate the lice and nits from the head. In the morning have a good bath to wash away the lice. This is one of the effective home remedy for head lice.

Head lice remedy - Prepare a fine paste of some custard apple that has been ground before, in an adequate amount of water. Apply this on the scalp and leave it overnight. Then, in the morning, wash the hair with a good shampoo. This will not only clear the lice and the nits from the head; it will also keep dandruff away.

Another good home remedy for head lice is to take six teaspoonfuls of clear water and two teaspoonfuls of vinegar. Mix these together. In the night, before going to sleep, immerse a wad of cotton in it, and apply this very nicely in the hair, working more at the roots. Then tie the head with a cloth bandage and go to sleep. Do this twice in a week. This will completely remove the lice from the scalp, and even deter the formation of dandruff.

Chop an apple into small pieces. Then apply these pieces into the scalp with a strong massaging action. Continue the massage for about 20 to 25 minutes. Do this once in a day for three days. This will ensure the complete elimination of lice from the hair. This is an effective head lice remedy.

Grind a garlic clove to fine paste and mix it in some lemon juice. Massage this mixture into the head in the night before going to sleep. In the morning, have a good head bath. Wash the hair thoroughly. The pungent chemicals in the garlic will kill the lice overnight, and the morning bath will remove their dead bodies from the hair. This remedy must be continued for four to five days. The lice will completely be gone from the scalp. This is one of the important natural remedy for head lice.

Take some freshly extracted coconut oil. Add some powder of the camphor in this oil. Apply this on the head every night while retiring. Wash your hair with a good quality shampoo in the morning. Continue this remedy for four days. This is one of the best home remedies for head lice.

Head lice cure - Grind the seed of a shareefa and apply it on the scalp. Keep it on the head for two hours. Then wash the scalp. This will certainly provide relief from the lice.

Keep three to four leaves of the neem tree in about 100 milliliters of coconut oil in a glass bottle. Keep the bottle covered so that the essences of the neem leaves get properly exuded in the

coconut oil. Apply this oil on the scalp on a regular basis and then comb your hair with a strong comb (whose teeth

are close together). The need extract will help to destroy the lice and the combing will remove the nits and dead lice from the hair. Remember that this comb must not be used by anyone else, or there is a chance they too will get infected. This is one of the useful head lice treatment.

Take some camphor extract, mix it in oil and apply it in your hair. This is a good remedy to kill the lice. After that have a good bath (shampoo your hair). This will remove the residues of the lice from the hair. This is one of the important head lice for home remedies.

How to get rid of Head Lice

Head lice infestation is a problem that occurs due to lack of hygiene on the part of the person. The following things must be done to keep the head clean and to prevent an infestation of lice in it:-

(i) Wash your hair everyday. You may shampoo it once in three days, but be sure to pass water through the hair daily. While washing the hair, massage at the roots of the hair, and not at the tips of the hair. That serves no purpose.

(ii) After your bath, oil the hair. Again, the oil must be applied on the scalp more.

(iii) Do not share combs, caps, hats, hairbrushes and any other kind of things used for the hair with anyone else.

(iv) Always wash your hair after you return home from a long journey where you have been in contact with crowded places.
