Dear Honorable Board Members:

Requested Board Action:

Informational Item

Background:

Attached to this letter, the Department is submitting the Imperial County Department of PublicWorks County Bridges and Road Work list. The list is to provide a prospective account ofactivities and functions the Department will facilitate for fiscal year 2016-2017. The Departmenthas identified the status of each project and prospective project to determine whether a project isin preliminary engineering (i.e. seeking funding, permitting, designing), in construction orpending construction. The funding source for each project has also been included to indicatewhat program, if any, is funding the project. It is important to note that before contracts forresident engineers, geotechnical engineers, and contractors can be awarded, the Department mustidentify the project's funding source before going into construction.

The funding that supports the Department's projects comes from various grant applicationssubmitted to the California Department of Transportation. The Department hag submittedvarious applications for capital improvement projects within Imperial County which includeHighway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP), Active Transportation Program (ATP), SafeRoutes to School (SRTS), Highway Bridge Program (HBP), Congestion Mitigation and AirQuality Improvement Program (CMAQ), and Local Transportation Authority (LTA) throughImperial County Transportation Commission. The Department is currently awaiting response forthree applications submitted to the ATP Cycle 3 which included bicycle path improvements onAten Road from Dogwood to IVC and sidewalk improvements at Heber and Seeley in theImperial County.

Various projects on the list are in preliminary engineering. This includes projects that havealready been awarded funding from Caltrans and have begun the design work for the project'splans and specifications before going out to bid.

Several projects on the list are currently in construction or will be in construction by the end ofthe year. The Salton Sea Roadway Improvement Project is an LTA funded road rehabilitation

bridge railing on the Forrester Road Bridge at Westside Main Canal after the burrowing owlseason.

Though the list provides functions that are currently taking place within the Department, it isimportant to note that many items overlap with previous fiscal years and will continue to overlapwith oncoming fiscal years due to project timelines.

County Counsel Coordination:

This item does not need to be reviewed by County Counsel

Fiscal Impact:

There will be no impact to the County General Fund.

Respectfully,

William S. Brunet, P.E.Director of Public Works
