Work area safetyKeep work area clean and well lit. Clutteredor dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosiveatmospheres, such as in the presence offlammable liquids, gases or dust. Powertools create sparks which may ignite the dust

or fumes.Keep children and bystanders away whileoperating a power tool. Distractions cancause you to lose control.

Electrical safetyPower tool plugs must match the outlet.Never modify the plug in any way. Do notuse any adapter plugs with earthed(grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugsand matching outlets will reduce risk of electricshock.

Avoid body contact with earthed or groundedsurfaces such as pipes, radiators, rangesand refrigerators. There is an increased riskof electric shock if your body is earthed orgrounded.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wetconditions. Water entering a power tool willincrease the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cordfor carrying, pulling or unplugging the powertool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharpedges or moving parts. Damaged or entangledcords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors,use an extension cord suitable for outdooruse. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor usereduces the risk of electric shock.

If operating the power tool in damp locationsis unavoidable, use a Ground Fault CircuitInterrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use ofan GFCI reduce the risk of electric shock.

Personal safetyStay alert, watch what you are doing anduse common sense when operating a

power tool. Do not use a power tool whileyou are tired or under the influence of drugs,alcohol or medication. A moment of inattentionwhile operating power tools may result inserious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Alwayswear eye protection. Protective equipment

such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hardhat, or hearing protection used for appropriateconditions will reduce personal injuries.

Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure theswitch is in the off-position beforeconnecting to power source and / or batterypack, picking up or carrying the tool.Carrying power tools with your finger on theswitch or energizing power tools that have theswitch on invites accidents.

Remove any adjusting key or wrench beforeturning the power tool on. A wrench or akey left attached to a rotating part of thepower tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing andbalance at all times. This enables bettercontrol of the power tool in unexpectedsituations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothingor jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing andgloves away from moving parts. Looseclothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught inmoving parts.

If devices are provided for the connectionof dust extraction and collection facilities,ensure these are connected and properlyused. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Power tool use and careDo not force the power tool. Use thecorrect power tool for your application.Thecorrect power tool will do the job better andsafer at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not use the power tool if the switch doesnot turn it on and off. Any power tool thatcannot be controlled with the switch isdangerous and must be repaired.

Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow the warningsand instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

SAVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCEThe term power tool in all of the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power toolor battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Safety Rules for Routers

Hold power tools by insulated grippingsurfaces when performing an operationwhere the cutting tool may contact hiddenwiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live"wire will make exposed metal parts of thetool "live" and shock the operator.

Do not drill, fasten or break into existingwalls or other blind areas where electricalwiring may exist. If this situation is

unavoidable, disconnect all fuses or circuitbreakers feeding this worksite.

Always make sure the work surface isfree from nails and other foreign objects.Cutting into a nail can cause the bit and thetool to jump and damage the bit.

Never hold the workpiece in one hand andthe tool in the other hand when in use.Never place hands near or below cuttingsurface. Clamping the material and guidingthe tool with both hands is safer.

Never lay workpiece on top of hardsurfaces, like concrete, stone, etc...Protruding cutting bit may cause tool to jump.

Always wear safety goggles and dustmask. Use only in well ventilated area.Using personal safety devices and working insafe environment reduces risk of injury.

After changing the bits or making anyadjustments, make sure the collet nut andany other adjustment devices aresecurely tightened. Loose adjustmentdevice can unexpectedly shift, causing lossof control, loose rotating components will beviolently thrown.

Never start the tool when the bit isengaged in the material. The bit cuttingedge may grab the material causing loss ofcontrol of the cutter.

Always hold the tool with two handsduring start-up. The reaction torque of the

motor can cause the tool to twist.

Disconnect the plug from the power sourceand/or the battery pack from the power toolbefore making any adjustments, changingaccessories, or storing power tools. Suchpreventive safety measures reduce the risk ofstarting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reach ofchildren and do not allow persons unfamiliarwith the power tool or these instructions tooperate the power tool. Power tools aredangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignmentor binding of moving parts, breakage ofparts and any other condition that mayaffect the power tools operation. If damaged,have the power tool repaired before use.Many accidents are caused by poorly

maintained power tools.

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.Properlymaintained cutting tools with sharp cuttingedges are less likely to bind and are easier tocontrol.

Use the power tool, accessories and toolbits etc. in accordance with these instructions,taking into account the working conditionsand the work to be performed. Use of thepower tool for operations different from thoseintended could result in a hazardous situation.

ServiceHave your power tool serviced by a qualifiedrepair person using only identicalreplacement parts. This will ensure that thesafety of the power tool is maintained.

The direction of feeding the bit into thematerial is very important and it relates tothe direction of bit rotation. When viewingthe tool from the top, the bit rotatesclockwise. Feed direction of cutting mustbe counter-clockwise. NOTE: inside and

outside cuts wil l require different feeddirection, refer to section on feeding therouter. Feeding the tool in the wrongdirection, causes the cutting edge of the bitto climb out of the work and pull the tool inthe direction of this feed.

Never use dull or damaged bits. Sharpbits must be handled with care. Damaged

bits can snap during use. Dull bits requiremore force to push the tool, possibly causingthe bit to break.

Never touch the bit during or immediatelyafter the use. After use the bit is too hot to

be touched by bare hands.Never lay the tool down until the motorhas come to a complete standstill. Thespinning bit can grab the surface and pull thetool out of your control.

Never use bits that have a cuttingdiameter greater than the opening in thebase.

Additional Safety Warnings

GFCI and personal protection devices likeelectricians rubber gloves and footwear will

further enhance your personal safety.Do not use AC only rated tools with a DCpower supply. While the tool may appear towork, the electrical components of the ACrated tool are likely to fail and create a hazardto the operator.

Keep handles dry, clean and free from oiland grease. Slippery hands cannot safelycontrol the power tool.

Use clamps or other practical way to secureand support the workpiece to a stable

platform. Holding the work by hand or againstyour body leaves it unstable and may lead toloss of control.

Develop a periodic maintenance schedulefor your tool. When cleaning a tool becareful not to disassemble any portion ofthe tool since internal wires may bemisplaced or pinched or safety guard returnsprings may be improperly mounted.Certain cleaning agents such as gasoline,

carbon tetrachloride, ammonia, etc. maydamage plastic parts.

Risk of injury to user. The power cord must onlybe serviced by a Bosch Factory Service Centeror Authorized Bosch Service Station.

Some dust created by powersanding, sawing, grinding,

drilling, and other construction activitiescontains chemicals known to cause cancer,birth defects or other reproductive harm.Some examples of these chemicals are:

Lead from lead-based paints,

Crystalline silica from bricks and cement andother masonry products, and

Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.

Your risk from these exposures varies,depending on how often you do this type ofwork. To reduce your exposure to thesechemicals: work in a well ventilated area, andwork with approved safety equipment, such asthose dust masks that are specially designedto filter out microscopic particles.

Read and understand the tool manual andthese instructions for the use of this tablewith your router. Failure to follow all

instructions listed below may result in seriouspersonal injury.

Unplug tool before setting up in table,making adjustments or changing bits.Accidental start-up of the tool can causeinjury.

Fully assemble and tighten all thefasteners required for this table andmounting the router. Also remember tooccasionally check the stand and make sureit is still tight. A loose stand is unstable and

may shift in use and cause serious injury.Before operating make sure the entireunit is placed on a solid, flat, levelsurface. Serious injury could occur if tool isunstable and tips.

Never stand on the table or use as ladderor scaffolding. Serious injury could occur ifthe table is tipped or the cutting tool isaccidentally contacted. Do not storematerials on or near the table such that it isnecessary to stand on the table or its stand

to reach them.Never use dull or damaged bits. Sharpbits must be handled with care. Damagedbits can snap during use. Dull bits requiremore force to push the workpiece, possiblycausing the bit to break.

Match the appropriate bit and its speed toyour application. Do not use bits thathave a cutting diameter that exceeds thecapacity of the tool. Overloading the toolcan lead to personal injury or tool failure.

Never start the tool when the bit isengaged in the material. The bit cuttingedge may grab the material causing loss ofcontrol of the workpiece.

Router bits are intended for wood, woodproducts and plastic only. Be sure theworkpiece does not contain nails, etc.before routing. Cutting a nail or the like willcause the carbides to be dislodged, flytoward the operator side, and possibly strikeyou or bystanders.

Feed the workpiece against the rotation ofthe bit. The bit rotates counter-clockwise

as viewed from the top of table. Feedingthe work in the wrong direction will cause theworkpiece to "climb" up on the bit and may

lead to loss of control during operation.

Never place hands near the spinning bit.Use push sticks, vertical and horizontallymounted feather boards (spring sticks)and other jigs to hold down the workpieceand keep your hands away from thespinning bit. Router cuts are blind cuts butthe bit still protrudes through the table andyou must be aware of the position of yourhands relative to the spinning bit.

We do not recommend cutting material

that is warped, wobbly or otherwiseunstable. If this situation is unavoidablealways cut the material with the concaveside against the table. Cutting the materialwith the concave side up or away from tablemay cause the warped or wobbly material toroll; causing you to lose control, kickback andserious personal injury may result.

Use the adjustable fence in straightcutting applications. When routing alongan entire edge of the work, the fence, fencefaces, and adjustable outfeed fence supportshims will help maintain stability.

When the table is used without the fence,piloted bits (or "bearing bits") must beused. Piloted bits are used when routinginternal and external contours on aworkpiece. The bearing of the piloted bitassists in maintaining control of theworkpiece. Whenever possible, the starterpin should also be used.

After changing the bits or making anyadjustments, make sure the collet nut and

any other adjustment devices aresecurely tightened. Loose adjustmentdevice can unexpectedly shift, causing lossof control, loose rotating components will beviolently thrown.

Never touch the bit during or immediatelyafter the use. Contact with a spinning bitwill cause injury and after use the bit is toohot to be touched by bare hands.

Use only Bosch replacement parts. Anyothers may create a hazard.

Assembly

A wide assortment of router bits with differentprofiles is available separately. Use 1/2"shank whenever possible, and only use good

quality bits.

To prevent personal injury,always remove the plug

from power source before removing orinstalling bits or accessories.

INSTALLING A ROUTER BITPlace router upside down or lay router on itsside with the base resting on the bench.Another option is to remove the motor fromthe base before installing the bit.

1. Remove the chip shield (or flip up if plunge

base is attached.2. Hold the armature shaft in place with the

shaft wrench (Fig. 4)

3. Next, use the collet wrench to loosen thecollet chuck assembly in counter-clockwise direction (viewed from under therouter).

4. Once you have verified that the bit's shankis of the proper diameter for the collet tobe used, insert the shank of the router bitinto the collet chuck assembly as far as it

will go, then back the shank out until thecutters are approximately 1/8" to 1/4" awayfrom the collet nut face.

5. With the router bit inserted and the shaftwrench holding the armature shaft, use thecollet wrench to firmly tighten the colletchuck assembly in a clockwise direction(viewed from under the router). To ensureproper gripping of the router bit andminimize run-out, the shank of the routerbit must be inserted at least 5/8".

To tighten or loosen collet nut, hold bothwrenches in one hand and and squeezethe wrenches together.

When the templet guidehas been removed from

base, do not use router bits greater than

2" in diameter as they will not fit throughthe sub-base.

Cutter diameter must be atleast 1/4 smaller than

opening for the bit and cutter.

To prevent damage totool, do not tighten collet

without a bit.

NOTE: The bit shank and chuck should beclean and free of dust, wood, residue andgrease before assembling.

REMOVING THE ROUTER BIT1. Use the shaft and collet chuck wrenches

as described earlier, and turn the colletchuck assembly in a counter-clockwisedirection.

2. Once the collet chuck assembly isloosened continue to turn the collet chuckassembly until it pulls the collet free fromits taper, and the router bit can beremoved.

NOTE: The collet chuck is self-extracting; itis NOT necessary to strike the collet chuck tofree the router bit.

! WARNING

COLLET CHUCK CAREWith the router bit removed, continue to turnthe collet chuck counter-clockwise until it isfree of the shaft. To assure a firm grip,occasionally blow out the collet chuck withcompressed air, and clean the taper in thearmature assembly shaft with a tissue or fine

brush. The collet chuck is made up of twocomponent parts as illustrated (Fig. 5); checkto see that the collet is properly seated in thecollet chuck nut and lightly thread the collet

chuck back onto the armature shaft. Replaceworn or damaged collet chucks immediately.

REMOVING MOTOR FROM BASE (Fig. 6)To remove motor from non-plunge bases:

1. Hold router in horizontal position, open baseclamp lever, depress coarse adjustmentlever, and pull motor upwards until it stops.

2. Turn motor counter-clockwise, and gentlypull it free of base.

To remove motor from plunge base: (Fig. 7)

1. Hold router in horizontal position, open baseclamp lever, and pull motor upwards until itstops.

2. Turn motor counter-clockwise, and gentlypull it free of base.

INSTALLING MOTOR IN BASEThe motor can be installed with the switchpositioned on the right or left of the base fromthe operator's side (and the cord facing theopposite side of the router). Install the motor sothat the switch is in the location you find to bethe most easily accessible from the handles.The switch should be easier to turn "OFF" than"ON" in case of an emergency.

To install motor in non-plunge base:

1. Release the base clamp lever.

2. Line up the arrow on the base with arrow onthe motor. (Fig. 8)

To position switch on the right side of thebase, line up the bases arrow with motorhousings arrow that is below the cord.

To position switch on the left, line up thebases arrow with motor housings arrowthat is below the switch.

3. While pressing the coarse adjustment lever,slide motor into base until resistance in felt.(The bases guide pin is now engaged intoslot on motor.)

4. Continue to press coarse adjustment lever,and turn the motor clockwise until it stops.

5. Push the motor into the base until it reachesthe approximate desired depth.

6. Release the coarse adjustment lever andslide the motor forward or back as neededuntil the coarse adjustment systems catchsprings into the coarse adjustment detentnotch.

7. Set final height position as described belowin Operating Instructions.

To install motor in plunge base:

1. Release the base clamp lever.

2. Line up the arrow on the base with arrow onthe motor. (Fig. 8)

To position switch on the right side of thebase, line up the bases arrow with arrow

on the motor housing that is below thecord.

To position switch on the left, line up thebases arrow with arrow on the motorhousing that is below the switch.

3. Slide motor into base until resistance in felt.(The bases guide pin is now engaged intoslot on motor.)

4. Turn the motor clockwise until it stops.

5. Push the motor into the base as far as it willgo.

6. Fasten the base clamp lever.

Bosch routers are designed for speed,accuracy and convenience in performingcabinet work, routing, fluting, beading, cove-cutting, dove tails, etc. They will enable you toaccomplish inlay work, decorative edges andmany types of special carving.

DEPTH ADJUSTMENTWITH FIXED BASE

Routers RA1161 fixed base are equipped witha true micrometer type fine adjustmentmechanism, which can be used in any positionand provides precise adjustment of the router

bit position for unmatched accuracy. When thetool is lowered to the approximate positiondesired, this device may be adjusted toprecisely set the final bit position.

Your router also features three horizontalnotches on both sides of the motor housing forcoarse adjustments. The notches are spaced1/2" apart which allows you to quickly lower orraise the tool depth in three 1/2" increments.(Approximately 12.7 mm), by simplydepressing the coarse adjustment releaselever.

TO ADJUST DEPTHNOTE: All depth adjustments must be madewith the base clamp lever released.

1. Hold the tool in a horizontal position with the

base clamp lever facing you.

2. Open the base clamp lever to release themotor.

CHIP DEFLECTORAlways wear eyeprotection. The chip

deflector is not intended as a safety guard.

The chip deflectors help keep dust and chipsout of your face, it will not stop objects larger

than dust thrown from the bit.

To remove chip shield from bases, pressinward on tabs until it releases from base andremove. To attach, place deflector into positionas shown in (Fig. 9). Then flex sides ofdeflector while pushing until it snaps into place.The plunge bases chip shield can also beflipped out.

3. COARSE ADJUSTMENT:To make a large depth adjustment, depresscoarse adjustment release lever and raise orlower to desired depth. There are threenotches in the motor housing which arespaced 1/2" to facilitate this adjustment.

4. FINE DEPTH ADJUSTMENT:To use the fine adjustment feature, turn thefine adjustment knob clockwise to lower therouter bit or counter-clockwise to raise it.

NOTE: Be sure coarse adjustment lever isengaged in one of the coarse adjustmentnotches before making a fine adjustment.

To allow precise settings, the indicator ring isgraduated in English and Metric increments.(Note: one full turn of fine adjustment knob =1/16" or approximately 1.5 mm. The fine

adjustment mechanism has a total adjustmentrange of 7/8" (23 mm). Each cast indicatormark next to coarse adjustment lever is equalto 1/8"

To prevent damage to tool, avoid wedging thecoarse adjustment lever against the upper A orlower B portion of the housing as shown infigure 10.

5. After making depth adjustments, re-clampthe motor.

The indicator ring may be reset to zero withoutmoving the fine adjustment knob, to allow theuser to begin the adjustment from anyreference point desired.

When the router is installed in a router table,it can be adjusted with a 1/8 hex wrench, notincluded with all models. (See page 21).

The RA1002 Fine Adjustment ControlExtension, an optional accessory for the non-

plunge bases, allows fine adjustment frombeyond the top of the motor housing. Toinstall, simply press the RA1002 into the endof the bases own fine adjustment knob.(Fig. 11)

TO CLAMP MOTORWhen final coarse and fine adjustments havebeen made, fasten the base clamp lever tosecure adjustments. (If additional clampingforce is desired: using a 10 mm wrench,rotate clamp nut clockwise SLIGHTLY (1/8turn or less), then test clamp. Do not over-tighten.)

The plunge feature simplifies depthadjustments and will allow the cutting bit toeasily and accurately enter the workpiece. Tolower, push plunge lock lever to the left, applydownward pressure until you reach desireddepth, and release pressure on lever to lock(Fig. 12). The plunge lock lever is springloaded and returns automatically to the lockedposition. To raise the router, push plunge lock

lever to the left, release pressure on router andthe router will automatically retract the bit fromthe workpiece. It is advisable to retract the bitwhenever it is not engaged in workpiece.

DEEP CUTS

For deeper cuts, make several progressivelydeeper cuts by starting with the highest step onthe depth turret, and after each cut, rotate thedepth turret to progressively lower steps asdesired, until the final depth (lowest step or flat)is reached. Steps progress by 1/8 increments.

To be certain that your depth settings are asdesired, you may want to make test cuts inscrap material before beginning work.

FINE ADJUSTMENTThe RA1166 plunge base is equipped with a

fine adjustment system that allows you tomicro adjust the plunge depth of the router bitfor superior routing accuracy.

Each complete revolution of the fine

adjustment stop adjusts the plunging depth by1/32, and each of the four indicator marks onthe knob represents 1/128. One of the fourtick marks is larger than the other to indicate acomplete revolution. A reference indicator lineis built in to the depth rod.

To use the fine adjustment knob, once thedepth rod and turret have been set, check thefinal depth setting and fine-adjust as follows:

To micro-increase the plunge depth, raise thefine adjustment stop by turning it counter-

clockwise by the desired amount.To micro-reduce the plunge depth, lower thefine adjustment stop by turning it clockwise bythe desired amount.

DEPTH ROD AND TURRETThe depth rod and the depth stop turret areused to control cutting depth as follows;

1. With the bit installed, gently lower the motoruntil the tip of the router bit just contacts thelevel surface the router is sitting on. This isthe zero position, from which further depthadjustments can be accurately made.

2. To set a desired depth of cut, rotate depthstop turret until the lowest step is alignedwith the depth rod. Loosen depth indicatorknob and lower the depth rod until itcontacts the lowest step of the turret. Slide

the depth indicator until the red line indicateszero on the depth scale, indicating the pointat which the bit just contacts the work(Fig. 13).

3. To set a desired cutting depth, slide thedepth rod up until the red depth indicator lineattains the desired cutting depth, and securethe rod in position by firmly tightening thedepth indicator knob.

4. The desired depth of cut may now beachieved by plunging the router until thedepth rod contacts the selected stop on theturret.

Notes: When micro-adjusting the plunge depth, it is

more convenient to move the fineadjustment stop up than down. Beforesetting the depth rod and turret, make surethe fine adjustment stop has been turned

several revolutions down from its topposition so that it can be adjusted upward.

The fine adjustment stop cannot be use toreduce the plunge depth when the depth rodis already touching the depth stop turret.

The router must be raised before such anadjustment can be made.

Also available is an alternative turret thathas an adjustable step which uses an M4screw for the adjustable step. Theadjustable step makes it possible to makemultiple-pass applications without having tomake a fine depth adjustment even whenthe total cutting depth is not a multiple of1/8".

ROCKER ON/OFF SWITCHYour tool can be turned ON or OFF by therocker switch located on the motor housing.

One side of the switch is marked I for ON,and the other side of switch is marked O forOFF. Also the edge of switch displays redwhen switch is in the ON position.

TO TURN THE TOOL ON: Push the side ofthe switch marked I.

TO TURN THE TOOL OFF: Push the sideof the switch marked O.

Always hold the router off the work whenturning the switch on or off. Contact the workwith the router after the router has reached full

speed, and remove it from the work beforeturning the switch off. Operating in this mannerwill prolong switch and motor life and willgreatly increase the quality of your work (Fig. 1).

FEEDING THE ROUTERAs seen from the top of the router, the bit turnsclockwise and the cutting edges faceaccordingly. Therefore, the most efficient cut ismade by feeding the router so that the bit turnsinto the work, not away. Figure 14 shows

proper feed for various cuts. How fast you feeddepends on the hardness of the material andthe size of the cut. For some materials, it isbest to make several cuts of increasing depth.

If the router is hard to control, heats up, runsvery slowly or leaves an imperfect cut,consider these causes:

1. Wrong direction of feed hard to control.

2. Feeding too fast overloads motor.

3. Dull bit overloads motor.

4. Cut is too large for one pass overloadsmotor.

5. Feeding too slow leaves friction burns onwork.

Feed smoothly and steadily (do not force). Youwill soon learn how the router sounds and feelswhen it is working best.

RATE OF FEEDWhen routing or doing related work in woodand plastics, the best finishes will result if thedepth of cut and feed rate are regulated tokeep the motor operating at high speed. Feed

the router at a moderate rate. Soft materialsrequire a faster feed rate than hard materials.

The router may stall if improperly used oroverloaded. Reduce the feed rate to preventpossible damage to the tool. Always be surethe collet chuck is tightened securely beforeuse. Always use router bits with the shortestcutting length necessary to produce thedesired cut. This will minimize router bit run-outand chatter.

GUIDING THE ROUTERThe router can be guided through the work inany of several ways. The method you usedepends, of course, on the demands of theparticular job and on convenience.

For routing operations such as grooving ordadoing, it is often necessary to guide the toolin a line parallel to a straight edge. Onemethod of obtaining a straight cut is to securelyclamp a board or other straightedge to thework surface, and guide the edge of the routersub-base along this path (Fig. 15).

ROUTER DUST COLLECTIONThere are three optional dust extraction hoodaccessories. Each dust extraction hood issized to accept 35mm vacuum hoses. Eachaccessory pack includes the VAC002 adapterthat will connect the hood to 1-1/4 and 1-1/2

vacuum hoses. An adapter to connect thehood to 2-1/2" hoses is also availableseparately.

ROUTER DUST COLLECTION FORPLUNGE BASE

This dust extraction hood is designed for usethe plunge base (RA1166) when routing isdone in the middle of the workpiece, such aswhen creating slots or routing patterns forinlays. If you have a shop vacuum system, youcan attach the dust extraction hood forimproved visibility, accuracy and utility,particularly in freehand routing.

To attach, position as shown and secureadapter to base with the thumbscrewsprovided (Fig. 16).

The dust extraction hood can also be installedwith the hose outlet facing the front of the tool.If the templet guide adapter is installed, it willneed to be reversed or removed to allow therelease lever to fit under the dust hood.

DELUXE ROUTER GUIDE(Not included, available as accessory)

The Bosch deluxe router guide is an optionalaccessory that will guide the router parallel to astraight edge or allow you to create circles andarcs.

The deluxe router guide is supplied with tworods and screws to fasten the guide (Fig. 22).In addition, it features a fine adjustment knoband indicator for accurately positioning theedge guide relative to the bit. With the guideinstalled and adjusted, the router should be fed

normally, keeping the guide in contact with theedge of the workpiece at all times. The deluxerouter guide may also be positioned directlyunder the router base for operations where acut is needed close to or at the edge of the work.

TEMPLET GUIDESThis router can also be used with the optionalBosch-exclusive quick-change templet guidesystem, which firmly grips the guides with aspring-loaded ring. Unlike conventionalthreaded templet guides, there is no threadedring that can come loose while routing.

Templet guides are used with a number ofspecial accessories, such as hinge templets,which are listed in your BOSCH catalog. Inaddition, special templets are easily preparedfor cutting repeated patterns, specialdesigns, inlays, and other applications. Atemplet pattern may be made of plywood,hardboard, metal or even plastic, and thedesign can be cut with a router, jigsaw, orother suitable cutting tool. Remember thatthe pattern wil l have to be made tocompensate for the distance between the

router bit and the templet guide (the offset),as the final workpiece will differ in size fromthe templet pattern by that amount, due tothe bit position (Fig. 24).

Your router features the Bosch PrecisionCentering Design. Its sub-base is preciselycentered at the factory. This positions the bit atthe center of the sub-base and optionaltemplet guides.

Precision centering allows you to use the edgeof the subbase or templet guides to closelyfollow jigs such as straight guides, templets,and dovetail fixtures without worrying about bitwalk-off from the intended cut line for anyreason, including the orientation of the routershandles relative to the jig.

To quickly re-center the sub-base, attach thesub-base using the set of flathead screws(included) and the countersunk screw holes inthe sub-base. (Flathead screws have the

tapered heads.) The flathead screws andcountersunk holes will pull the sub-base into aposition that is very close to centered.

To most precisely re-center the sub-base ortemplet guides, attach the sub-base using theoptional Bosch RA1151 Centering Device.Follow steps 1-8 (Fig. 26 & 27).

1. If a templet guide is to be centered, Installthe templet guide adapter and templateguide (optional attachments) as describedelsewhere in this manual.

2. Position the sub-base so that its pan-headscrew holes are over the matching set ofthreaded holes in the base.

3. Insert the pan-head screws through the sub-base and tighten them until they are snug,but still allow the sub-base to move.

The undertable base accessory includes thescrews needed to fasten the base to a routertable mounting plate, as well as a T-hexwrench for above-table depth adjustment.

ATTACHING BASE TOMOUNTING PLATE

Attach the RA1161 to the router tablesmounting plate using either or both sets ofenclosed mounting screws.

The base has two sets of threaded holes formounting the base:

Three 10-24 holes in industry-standard3-hole pattern.

Four M4 holes in Bosch 4-hole pattern.

The length will depend on the thickness ofyour router table or router table mountingplate.

CONNECT THE ROUTER AND THEROUTER TABLE SWITCH

To prepare for use of the switch,

1. Make sure the router switch and the routertable switch are both turned off.

2. Plug the router table switch cord to walloutlet.

3. Plug the router into the "pigtail" socket onthe router table switch.

4. Lock router switch on: squeeze trigger,depress lock-on button, and release trigger.

5. Use the router table switch to start and stopthe router.

FEEDING THE WORKPIECEON A ROUTER TABLE

Always use your router table's fence or starterpin and the appropriate guard and follow therouter table's instruction manual. ALWAYSfeed the workpiece from right to left across thefront of the bit. On Bosch router tables, thecorrect feed direction is also shown on fencehousing and on the featherboards, when theyhave been properly installed. (Fig. 29)

Whenever possible, when using the fence,

use a push stick to push the workpiece,especially when working with narrow pieces.

personnel may result in misplacing ofinternal wires and components whichcould cause serious hazard. We recommendthat all tool service be performed by a BoschFactory Service Center or Authorized BoschService Station.

TOOL LUBRICATIONYour Bosch tool has been properly lubricatedand is ready to use. It is recommended thattools with gears be regreased with a specialgear lubricant at every brush change.

CARBON BRUSHESThe brushes and commutator in your tool havebeen engineered for many hours ofdependable service. To maintain peakefficiency of the motor, we recommend everytwo to six months the brushes be examined.Only genuine Bosch replacement brushesspecially designed for your tool should beused.

BEARINGSAfter about 300-400 hours of operation, or at

every second brush change, the bearings

should be replaced at Bosch Factory ServiceCenter or Authorized Bosch Service Station.Bearings which become noisy (due to heavy

load or very abrasive material cutting) shouldbe replaced at once to avoid overheating ormotor failure.

CleaningTo avoid accidents alwaysdisconnect the tool from

the power supply before cleaning orperforming any maintenance. The tool maybe cleaned most effectively with compresseddry air. Always wear safety goggles whencleaning tools with compressed air.

Ventilation openings and switch levers must bekept clean and free of foreign matter. Do notattempt to clean by inserting pointed objectsthrough openings.

Certain cleaning agentsand solvents damage

plastic parts. Some of these are: gasoline,carbon tetrachloride, chlorinated cleaningsolvents, ammonia and household detergentsthat contain ammonia.

Scurit lectriqueLes fiches des outils lectroportatifs doiventcorrespondre la prise. Il ne faut absolument jamaismodifier la fiche. Nutilisez pas dadaptateur de prise

avec des outils lectroportatifs munis dune fiche deterre. Le risque de choc lectrique est moindre si onutilise une fiche non modifie sur une prise qui luicorrespond.

Habillez-vous de manire approprie. Ne portez pasde vtements amples ou de bijoux. Attachez lescheveux longs. Napprochez pas les cheveux, lesvtements ou les gants des pices en mouvement.Les vtements amples, les bijoux ou les cheveux longsrisquent dtre happs par les pices en mouvement.

Si loutil est muni de dispositifs permettant leraccordement dun systme daspiration et decollecte des poussires, assurez-vous que cesdispositifs sont raccords et utiliss correctement.

Tenez les outils lectroportatifs par les surfaces deprhension isoles lorsque vous effectuez uneopration l'occasion de laquelle l'outil de couperisque d'entrer en contact avec un fil cach ou avecson propre cordon d'alimentation. Tout contact avecun fil sous tension mettra galement sous tension lespices mtalliques de l'outil qui sont exposes etcausera donc un choc lectrique pour l'oprateur.

Il ne faut pas percer, assujettir ou casser des mursou d'autres structures sans visibilit l'intrieurdesquels des fils lectriques peuvent se trouver. S'iln'est pas possible d'viter une telle situation,dconnectez tous les fusibles ou disjoncteurs descircuits alimentant ce lieu de travail.

Assurez-vous toujours que la surface de travail estexempte de clous et autres objets trangers. La coupedans un clou peut faire sauter la lame et l'outil, et ainsiabmer la lame.

Ne tenez jamais le matriau d'une main et l'outil del'autre lorsque vous en faites usage. Ne placez jamaisles mains sous la surface de coupe ou proximit decelle-ci. Il est plus sr de cramponner le matriau et de

guider l'outil des deux mains.Ne posez jamais le matriau sur des surfaces durestelles que le bton, la pierre, etc. ... La lame de coupeen saillie peut faire sauter l'outil.

Portez toujours des lunettes de scurit et un masqueanti-poussires. N'utilisez l'outil qu' un endroit bienar. L'utilisation de dispositifs de scurit personnelleet le travail dans un environnement sr rduisent lesrisques de blessures.

Aprs avoir chang les lames ou effectu quelquerglage que ce soit, assurez-vous que l'crou de ladouille et tout autre dispositif de rglage sont bienserrs. Un dispositif de rglage lche peut bougersoudainement et causer ainsi une perte de contrle avecprojection violente des composants en rotation.

Ne mettez jamais l'outil en marche alors que la lameest enfonce dans le matriau. Le tranchant de la lamepeut se coincer dans le matriau et vous faire perdre lecontrle du couteau.

Tenez toujours l'outil des deux mains durant la miseen marche. Le couple de raction du moteur peut fairetordre l'outil.

Le sens d'introduction de la lame dans le matriauest trs important, et il est li au sens d'introductionde la lame. Lorsque vous regardez l'outil depuis ledessus, la lame tourne en sens horaire. Ne vous servez pas de loutil lectroportatif si soninterrupteur ne parvient pas le mettre en marche ou larrter. Tout outil lectroportatif qui ne peut pastre command par son interrupteur est dangereux etdoit tre rpar.

Dbranchez la fiche de la prise ou enlevez le bloc-pilede loutil lectroportatif avant tout rglage,changement daccessoires ou avant de ranger loutillectroportatif. De telles mesures de scuritprventive rduisent le risque de dmarrage intempestifde loutil lectroportatif.

Rangez les outils lectroportatifs dont vous ne vousservez pas hors de porte des enfants et ne permettezpas des personnes qui ne connaissent pas loutillectroportatif ou qui ignorent ces consignes de senservir. Les outils lectroportatifs sont dangereux dansles mains dutilisateurs inexpriments.

N'utilisez jamais de lames mousses ou abmes.Les lames affiles doivent tre maniessoigneusement. Les mches abmes peuvent serompre brusquement durant l'usage. Les lamesmousses ncessitent plus de force pour pousserl'outil, causant ventuellement un bris de la lame.

Ne touchez jamais la lame durant ou immdiatementaprs l'usage. Aprs usage, la lame est trop chaudepour tre touche main nue.

Ne posez jamais l'outil avant que le moteur ne se soitarrt compltement. La lame en rotation peut saisir lasurface et vous faire perdre le contrle de l'outil.

Nutilisez jamais des fers dont le diamtre de coupe estsuprieur celui de louverture pratique dans la base.

Avertissements supplmentaires concernant la scurit

Lemploi dun GFCI et de dispositifs de protectionpersonnelle tels que gants et chaussures dlectricien en

caoutchouc amliorent votre scurit personnelle.Nutilisez pas un outil conu uniquement pour le C.A.sur une alimentation en C.C. Mme si loutil semblefonctionner, les composants lectriques dun outil prvupour le C.A. tomberont probablement en panne etrisquent de crer un danger pour lutilisateur.

Maintenez les poignes sches et exemptes dhuile etde graisse. On ne pas matriser un outil lectroportatifen toute scurit quand on a les mains glissantes.

Utilisez des brides ou dautres moyens pratiques debrider ou de supporter la pice sur une plate-forme

stable. Tenir la pice la main ou contre le corps estinstable et risque de rsulter en une perte de contrle.

Crez un agenda dentretien priodique pour votreoutil. Quand vous nettoyez un outil, faites attention denen dmonter aucune pice car il est toujourspossible de mal remonter ou de pincer les filsinternes ou de remonter incorrectement les ressortsde rappel des capots de protection. Certains agents denettoyage tels que lessence, le ttrachlorure decarbone, lammoniaque, etc. risquent dabmer lesplastiques.

Risque de blessure pour l'utilisateur. Le cordond'alimentation lectrique ne doit tre rpar que par un

Centre de service usine de Bosch ou par une Stationservice agre de Bosch.

Les travaux la machinetel que ponage, sciage,

meulage, perage et autres travaux du btimentpeuvent crer des poussires contenant des produitschimiques qui sont des causes reconnues de cancer,de malformation congnitale ou dautres problmesreproductifs. Ces produits chimiques sont, parexemple :

Le plomb provenant des peintures base de plomb,

Les cristaux de silices provenant des briques et duciment et dautres produits de maonnerie, et

Larsenic et le chrome provenant des bois traitschimiquement.

Le niveau de risque d cette exposition varie avec lafrquence de ces types de travaux. Pour rduirelexposition ces produits chimiques, il faut travaillerdans un lieu bien ventil et porter un quipement descurit appropri tel que certains masques poussireconus spcialement pour filtrer les particulesmicroscopiques.

Consignes de scurit pour table de toupillage

Veuillez lire et comprendre le mode demploi devotre machine et les instructions dutilisation decette table avec votre dfonceuse. Si vous nerespectez pas toutes les consignes qui suivent, vousrisquez des blessures corporelles graves.

Dbranchez la machine avant de dployer la table,de faire des rglages ou de changer de fer. Toutdmarrage intempestif de la machine risque de causerdes blessures.

Assemblez compltement et serrez tous leslments de fixation de cette table et ceux requispour y monter la dfonceuse. Noubliez pasgalement de contrler priodiquement le pied pourvous assurer quil est toujours serr. Desserr, il

serait instable et risquerait de bouger pendantlutilisation, ce qui pourrait causer des blessuresgraves.

Avant toute utilisation, assurez-vous que lunit estentirement positionne sur une surface ferme,plate et de niveau. Il y a risque de blessures gravessi la machine est instable et bascule.

Ne montez jamais sur la table et ne vous en servezjamais comme chelle ou chafaudage. Il y a risquede blessure grave si la table bascule ou si voustouchez accidentellement le fer. Ne stockez pas dematriaux sur la table ou proximit de celle-ci de

telle sorte quil serait ncessaire de grimper sur latable ou sur son pied pour les atteindre.

Nutilisez jamais de fer mouss ou abm.Manipulez les fers aiguiss avec prcaution. Lesfers abms risquent de casser pendant lutilisation.Les fers mousss ncessitent quon pousse plus fortsur la pice ce qui risque de les briser.

Utilisez le fer et la vitesse qui conviennent latche effectuer. Nutilisez pas de fer dont lediamtre est suprieur la capacit de la machine.Il y a risque de blessure grave ou de panne de lamachine si celle-ci est surcharge.

Ne dmarrez jamais la machine avec le fer encontact avec la pice. Le tranchant du fer risque dehapper la pice, et vous pourriez en perdre lecontrle.

Les fers de dfonceuse sont conus exclusivementpour le bois, les produits base de bois et lesplastiques. Vrifiez que la pice ne contient aucunclou etc. avant de toupiller. Si on coupe un clou ousimilaire, les pastilles carbure risquent de se dloger,dtre projetes vers lutilisateur et de le frapper ou defrapper un tiers.

Poussez la pice contre le sens de rotation du fer.Le fer tourne en sens anti-horaire vu du dessus dela table. Si on pousse la pice dans le mauvais sens,elle risque dtre happe par le fer, ce qui peutrsulter en une perte de contrle pendant letoupillage.

Napprochez jamais les mains du fer en rotation.Utilisez des baguettes pour pousser la pice, desplanches en ventail montes horizontalement ouverticalement (planches ressort) ou dautresmontages pour la tenir afin de maintenir vos mains distance du fer en rotation. Lors du toupillage le ferne dpasse pas de la planche mais il dpasse quandmme de la table et il est important de toujoursconnatre la position de vos mains par rapport au fer

en rotation.Nous vous conseillons de ne pas toupiller de picesdformes, tordues ou autrement instables. Si vousne pouvez pas faire autrement, toupillez toujours lapice avec le ct concave tourn vers le bas(contre la table). Si on toupille avec le ct concavetourn vers le haut (oppos la table), la picedforme ou tordue risque de rouler et de causer uneperte de contrle. Il y a risque de rebond et deblessures corporelles graves.

Utilisez le guide rglable pour les toupillagesdroits. Lors du toupillage le long dun chant dunepice, le guide et le coin de support rglablespermettent de stabiliser la pice.

Seuls les fers pilots peuvent tre utiliss sans leguide. Ils sutilisent pour toupiller des contoursextrieurs et intrieurs sur la pice. Le roulement dufer pilot aide maintenir le contrle de la pice.

Aprs avoir chang de fer ou effectu un rglage,assurez-vous que lcrou de douille et tous lessystmes de rglages sont fermement serrs.Desserr, un systme de rglage risque de bouger demanire inattendue, rsultant en une perte decontrle. Quant aux pices tournantes desserres,elles risquent dtre violemment jectes.Ne touchez jamais le fer pendant lutilisation ouimmdiatement aprs. Vous vous blesseriez si voustouchiez un fer en rotation. Aprs usage, le fer esttrop chaud pour pouvoir le toucher main nue.

Utilisez exclusivement des pices de rechangeBosch. Toute autre pice risque de prsenter undanger.

Pour viter le risque deblessure, dbranchez

toujours le cordon de la source dalimentation avantde substituer les fers ou autres accessoires.

POSE D'UN FER DE TOUPIEPosez la dfonceuse lenvers ou sur son ct aveclembase reposant sur ltabli. Il est galementpossible denlever le moteur de l'embase avant demonter le fer.

1. Enlevez le pare-copeaux (ou pivotez-le vers le hautsi vous utilisez embase plongeante).

2. Tenez l'arbre d'induit en place l'aide de la clpour arbre (Fig. 4).

3. Utilisez ensuite la cl pour douille pour desserrerl'ensemble mandrin-douille en sens anti-horaire(quand on le regarde depuis le dessous de latoupie).

4. Aprs vous tre assur que la tige du fer a lediamtre appropri pour la douille utiliser, insrezla tige du fer de toupie dans l'ensemble mandrin-douille aussi loin que possible, puis reculez la tige

vers l'extrieur jusqu' ce que les couteaux soient environ entre 3 mm - 6 mm de la face de l'croude douille.

5. Une fois le fer insr et la cl pour arbre tenantl'arbre d'induit, serrez fermement l'ensemblemandrin-douille en sens horaire (quand on leregarde depuis le dessous de la toupie) l'aide dela cl pour douille.

Pour serrer ou desserrer lcrou de fixation de ladouille, saisissez les deux cls dune main etcomprimez-les.

Si le guide de gabarit estenlev de l'embase,

nutilisez pas de fers de dfonceuse dun diamtresuprieur 2 po car ils ne passeraient pas par letrou de la sous-embase.

Le diamtre du tranchantdoit tre dau moins 1/4 po

infrieur celui de l'ouverture pour le fer et letranchant.

Pour viter dendommagerloutil, ne serrez pas

lcrou de douille en labsence du fer.

REMARQUE : La tige du fer et le mandrin doivent trepropres et exempts de poussire, de bois, de rsiduset de graisse avant l'assemblage.

DPOSE DU FER1. Au moyen des cls pour arbre et mandrin-douille

mentionnes prcdemment, tournez l'ensemblemandrin-douille en sens anti-horaire.

2. Quand l'ensemble mandrin-douille est desserr,continuez le tourner jusqu' ce que la douille sedgage du cne et que vous puissiez retirer le fer.

REMARQUE : L'extraction de l'ensemble mandrin-douil le s'accomplit sans effort ; i l n'est PASncessaire de frapper le mandrin pour dloger le fer.

SOINS DE L'ENSEMBLE MANDRIN-DOUILLEQuand le fer est enlev, continuez tournerl'ensemble mandrin-douille en sens anti-horairejusqu' ce qu'il se dtache de l'arbre. Pour assurer unserrage adquat, nettoyez occasionnellementl'ensemble l'air comprim, et nettoyez le cne del'arbre d'induit avec un chiffon ou une brosse douce.Comme le montre l'illustration (Fig. 5), l'ensemble

mandrin-douille est constitu de trois lments.Assurez-vous que la douille est cale adquatementdans l'crou de l'ensemble mandrin-douille et vissezlgrement le mandrin-douille en place sur l'arbre

d'induit. Remplacez les ensembles mandrin-douilleuss ou endommags immdiatement.

DMONTAGE DU MOTEUR DE LEMBASE (Fig. 6)Pour dmonter le moteur des embases non plongeantes :1. Tenez la dfonceuse lhorizontale, desserrez le

levier de bridage de lembase, enfoncez le levier derglage grossier de la profondeur et tirez le moteurvers le haut jusqu ce quil bute.

2. Tournez le moteur en sens anti-horaire et retirez-ledoucement de l'embase en tirant.Pour enlever le moteur de lembase plongeante : (Fig. 7)1. Tenez la dfonceuse lhorizontale, desserrez le

levier de bridage de l'embase et tirez le moteur versle haut jusqu ce quil bute.

2. Tournez le moteur en sens anti-horaire et retirez-ledoucement de l'embase en tirant.

MONTAGE DU MOTEUR SUR UNE EMBASELe moteur peut tre mont avec linterrupteurpositionn droite ou gauche de l'embase vue du ctde lutilisateur (et avec le cordon dirig vers lautre ctde la dfonceuse). Installez le moteur de manire ceque linterrupteur soit dans la position que vous trouvezla plus facile daccs depuis les poignes. Linterrupteurdoit tre positionn pour privilgier larrt en casdurgence plutt que la marche.

Pour installer le moteur dans une embase non plongeante :1. Desserrez le levier de bridage de lembase.

2. Placez la flche de lembase en face de celle dumoteur. (Fig. 8)

Pour positionner linterrupteur du ct droit delembase, mettez la flche de l'embase en face de

celle du botier du moteur qui se trouve sous lecordon. Pour positionner linterrupteur gauche, mettez la

flche de lembase en face de celle du botier dumoteur qui se trouve sous linterrupteur.

3. Tout en appuyant sur le levier de rglage grossier,enfoncez le moteur dans lembase jusqu ce quevous sentiez une rsistance. (Le pied de guidage delembase pntre maintenant dans la fente dumoteur.)

4. Tout en continuant dappuyer sur le levier de rglagegrossier, tournez le moteur en sens horaire jusqu

ce quil bute.5. Enfoncez le moteur dans lembase jusqu ce quil

atteigne approximativement la profondeur dsire.

6. Relchez le levier de rglage grossier et faitescoulisser le moteur vers lavant ou vers larrirejusqu ce que loquet du systme de rglage grossiersenclenche dans le cran de rglage grossier.

7. Rglez la profondeur finale comme dcrit dans les instructions dutilisation .

Pour installer le moteur dans une embase plongeante :1. Desserrez le levier de bridage de lembase.

2. Placez la flche de lembase en face de celle dumoteur. (Fig. 8)

Pour positionner linterrupteur du ct droit delembase, mettez la flche de l'embase en face de

celle du botier du moteur qui se trouve sous lecordon.

Pour positionner linterrupteur gauche, mettez laflche de lembase en face de celle du botier dumoteur qui se trouve sous linterrupteur.

3. Enfoncez le moteur dans lembase jusqu ce quevous sentiez une rsistance. (Le pied de guidage delembase pntre maintenant dans la fente dumoteur.)

4. Tournez le moteur en sens horaire jusqu ce quilbute.

5. Enfoncez le moteur fond dans lembase.

6. Serrez le levier de bridage de lembase.
