2015 for Bosco was an amazing year full of achievements and successes.

Bosco dominated in the sporting arena. Bosco is full of talented people and this showed in all three carnivals. At the athletics carnival, everyone showed up in their House colours with a sea of blue dominating the Domain. Everyone in Bosco House participated to the best of their ability and we came out on top, winning all three shields. !e Year 10 cohort, led by Liam Wake"eld and Jessica Green ensured Bosco were in control all day.

!e cross country carnival was equally as exciting with a number of Bosco students placing in top 10 for age groups. Congratulations to Josh Peters on winning the Open Boys Event. Bosco took the overall shield.

!e last carnival for 2015 was the swimming carnival. Bosco once again showed talent and participation winning the boys shield and the overall aggregate shield. Outstanding performances were Jacob Davidson, Nemesia Skelly, Jasmine Skelly and Lucas Henderson. !is meant the current Year 10s have won 12 straight carnivals, every carnival since Year 7, an awesome e#ort.

Bosco House has been involved in a large number of events, teams and competitions in the area of academia. We have performed exceptionally well in some of these challenging areas and Bosco House members gladly volunteered. One of the major events throughout the year was House Debating for our Year 7s and 8s. We have also had people involved in chess, College quizzes and Open Day tours. !e humour and wit of Cameron Page were something to be seen in the House Debating Competition!

Bosco House members have received an outstanding number of Gold Expectation Awards because of their excellent reports. We have also had some exceptional people receive Diamond awards.

Creative Arts has been a huge success this year and students still never cease to amaze us with their con"dence to stand up and act in front of large groups or to showcase their talent in galleries and performances. Some of the amazing creative events have included dance, choir, Talking Heads, !eatre Sports and ‘In Your Own Words’.

!eatresports was great fun, with the 7 & 8 Bosco team coming third and the 9 & 10 team coming "rst. Also congratulations to Samuel Lacy-Fogarty for winning the ‘most memorable moment’ in the 9 & 10 section.

In Mission and Community Service, Bosco contributed the most towards Project Compassion; this was through outstanding

generosity and fundraising. Students were also actively involved in Vinnies, Oz Bosco and the Salesian Youth Group. We were also actively involved in Masses and liturgies.

Bosco House is looking forward to the College Fair, in which we have all students involved in contributing and volunteering time to the College community.

1815-2015 Guzman HouseAnother great year in Guzman House - creative, sports and academic success, the best cheer squad at DC, along with a supportive pastoral team of teachers. We will soon say goodbye our 2015 Year 10 cohort and Years 7-9 will get ready to move up a year level and on to the next step of their journey.

I thank our students for their participation, their passionate support at carnivals, the have-a-go attitude and showing the best of the Guzman House spirit. Our four o$cial leaders have done a great job over 2015 and here are their reports for 2015.

Mrs Jo Je!ery, Guzman House Coordinator

Being elected Guzman sport captain was an amazing privilege and I have learnt so many skills and had many incredible opportunities. I have been a member of Guzman since Prep and have always been proud to be a part of an outstanding House in so many ways. !is year I have been able to see "rst-hand the incredible determination and mateship of the House as a whole. At every carnival the House comes together and shines - everyone gives it their all in every way possible, in events, helping out with organising or screaming one of Guzman’s many chants, at the top of their lungs.

It has been an honour leading my House this year and it is something I will remember throughout my life. !ank you to everyone who has supported me, thank you to the three other leaders. You have been incredible. Most of all to Mrs Je#ery; we could not have done it without you.

Monique Enright Sport Captain

Being 2015 Creative Arts Captain was an incredible experience I will never forget. !roughout the year, many Guzman students have been involved in the Drama and Music productions and ensembles, putting in a fantastic e#ort whilst showing their dedication to our House. All students in Guzman House should be very proud of

their e#orts throughout the year. I would like to thank my other fellow Guzman leaders and Mrs Je#ery for an excellent year of leadership.

Nadia Twining Creative Arts Captain

Being a leader in the Guzman House was one of the most amazing learning experiences in my life. I love the spirit the Guzman House has, with people so dedicated turning up to every carnival and event. !e Guzman House community really felt like we were there for each other, supporting one another.

Being the Academic Captain of Guzman was exciting; I was very keen on learning new things like debating, while trying to be the best leader I could be. It was a remarkable opportunity to share with Nadia, Monique and Shari. Mrs Je#ery helped us so much along the way. I would like to wish the best to all the people in Guzman! I highly recommend to all future Year 10s to go for a leadership position.

Georgia Perry Academic Captain

2015 has been a year full of fun, laughter and good times with friends spent in a

community we all love. As Guzman’s Mission Captain I have learned to live by some of the best morals and I hope I am a more sel%ess and compassionate person than I was at the start of the year.

I loved the involvement of each and every Guzman student and the dedication shown at every event from carnivals to Mass. My all-time favourite part of the year was Super OzBosco and the friends I made. I highly recommend everyone to get involved with the community and keep up the Guzman spirit; it truly was a pleasure to be a part of it all.

Shari Smith Mission Captain

1815-2015 Savio HouseIn Mission, our homerooms stepped up, raising money for very worthy causes, such as our World Vision sponsor child, Calvin, who also sent us a letter this year to tell us what’s going on in his life, and how fast he is growing up! Savio House was also heavily involved with the initiatives of this year’s SRC such as, Fresh Face Friday, Footy Colours Day and Beanie Day. We also had a big group go to OzBosco, celebrating St John Bosco’s 200th birthday.

We had a massive presence at Anzac services from New Norfolk, Hobart, Glenorchy and even Oatlands, commemorating the centenary of the "rst landings at Gallipoli. We are very proud of the e#ort Savio House has put in this year and we will continue to make a di#erence in our community.

Savio House has excelled in the "eld of Academia. Many students received Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. !ese awards are presented at the end of each Term and more students have achieved these awards than ever.

Another area where Savio has been heavily involved in this year is the House Debating Competition, with the Year 7 team achieving "rst place and the Year 8 team coming in second. Many Savio students attended the debates at lunchtimes to support and cheer for the teams. Two more notable e#orts are the number of Savio students volunteering to participate in the ICAS tests and the competitive spirit shown by Savio in the Dominic Day quiz.

In Creative Arts this year, it was a very busy time for our students. Our "rst production was in memory of our ANZACs, “In !eir Own Words” which included many Savio students. “Talking Heads” was another production performed by the senior drama classes; they did a fantastic job as well.

!eatresports was a big hit as well - a big congratulations to Savio Year 7/8 for coming "rst and also Savio Year 9/10 for coming second. I encourage you all to get involved

with Creative Arts and cheer on your fellow students in 2016!

Savio House spirit has been outstanding particularly in the sporting areas and associated carnivals. !roughout the year Savio has come together as one House and really supported one another with encouragement and excellent participation.

!e highlight for many of us would be the Cross Country carnival when every age group came together before their run and talked about the race, encouraging one another and just really trying to make sure

everyone succeeded, tried their best and felt happy at the end.

1815-2015

2015 has been a year of success for Siena House in all aspects of the school community. From start to "nish everyone in Siena House has pushed themselves to the limits and tried their absolute best in everything!

!e Year 8 team took out "rst place in the House debating competition, remaining undefeated throughout. Siena House has won the academic shield for the past two years - a fantastic e#ort. In the House Chess competition, Siena took out second place with our very own Trung Tran winning the over-all chess champion. During Term 3, the academic captains held a trivia competition against each of the Houses. It was a strong performance with Siena winning the event.

OzBosco 2015 occurred in April in Melbourne where students came from all over Australia to meet new people, learn new things and have fun! It was huge event to celebrate the bicentenary of St John Bosco’s birth and an amazing experience for everyone who attended! !ere was a concert, a scary zombie chase and many other games and experiences.

!e Salesian Youth group (SYDC) was created this year for anyone who wants to get involved in activities, events and also organising new things for the whole school to get involved. De"nitely recommending this for everyone, it is a lot of fun; you’ll make many new friends and new experiences! !ese are just two of many other mission groups and activities which many Siena students are involved in. Siena House has such a great bond, everyone is so caring for one another and the level of participation and enthusiasm which is shown during carnivals and House events is outstanding.

!roughout the year, Siena House has again showed their enthusiasm and great sportsmanship during the House sporting carnivals. It has been an excellent year with participation and dedication each member of our House has shown.

Term 1 kicked o# with another promising performance at the athletics carnival, with a sea of red supporters leading the way. Siena House went into the cross country soaring with con"dence, which lead to another impressive day which saw many students of Siena House claiming top ten placements. Term 3 was Siena House’s best carnival by far with the level of participation and enthusiasm was outstanding.

!e stand-out for the year would have to be winning the “overall girls trophy” at the swimming carnival, it was an exciting time for all of Siena as we had never won a trophy at the swimming carnival. Watch out for Siena House in 2016!

!ere has been a huge increase in Siena students participating in creative arts. We have many talented students in Years 7-10 all of which did Siena exceptionally proud. !e Year 9 and 10 students performed brilliantly in the drama production of In !eir Own Words, with many new students reaching out of their comfort zones. Many Siena students had artwork in the Royal Hobart Art Exhibition, with George Pongo winning "rst prize in the year 7-8 category.

Many Siena students got involved with the !eatresports House competition, with all year levels showing enthusiasm and pride.

It has been a great privilege to be leaders of Siena House for 2015. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time as being leaders and we look forward to what Siena will bring in the future with the new leaders of 2016. Big thanks to all teachers, especially Mr Pritchard, for motivating Siena House to do their best in all aspect of the school community. #Sienaontherise

!e Dominic Old Scholars Association (DOSA) represents ex-students from Dominic College and its forerunners, Boys’ Town, St John’s, Savio College and Holy Name School. Dominic College helped form the group to maintain contact with Old Scholars and to make it easier for ex-students to keep in touch with one another.

Membership is free, and there are no commitments or rules or compulsory meetings. DOSA members connect with each other and the school community at regular events and celebrations including the Dominic College fair, historical occasions, class reunions, sports events and the special DOSA Christmas Eve Mass in the College chapel.

DOSA presents all Year 10 students with a commemorative key-ring at their Graduation Mass as a symbol of their induction into the Association. DOSA sponsors and presents the Br Peter Dezani Award to the student who has achieved overall academic excellence supported by an active school spirit in leadership, community service or sports success.

!e DOSA Committee is currently made up of Dominic College Principal, Ms Beth Gilligan, Dominic College Rector, Fr Frank Bertagnolli SDB, and Old Scholars, Chairman Mr Tony Webb (1963), Ms Diane Byrne (Cerritelli, 1971), Ms Leesa Baker (1986) and Ms Nicole McKay (Glover, 1994).

!e Committee would welcome further volunteers to join them. !e Committee meets every second month for a meal at the College while planning events.

College Colours EventDominic College entertained 70 old scholars and leaders from ten independent schools

at a colourful evening in our new Savio student hub on Friday 13 March.

Each year a member school of the Combined Southern Tasmanian Independent Schools Old Scholars Associations Committee hosts a “College Colours” cocktail evening. !e event has been a tradition for a number of generations, and though the activities of each old scholar association wax and wane with current trends in social interaction, a small number of generous-hearted old scholars maintain the christian fellowship and friendly rivalry inherent in Tasmanian old scholar friendship. Dominic College last hosted the event 18 years ago, and thus a number of guests from other schools were visiting the College for the "rst time.

Ms Beth Gilligan, Principal of Dominic College, said the visitors were impressed by the contemporary facilities as well as by current Year 10 leaders who assisted with organisation and refreshments. Dominic Old Scholars Association Committee chairman, Mr Tony Webb (Savio College, Class of 1963) welcomed guests, Principal Ms Beth Gilligan spoke of the importance of Colleges maintaining links with old scholars. Dominic College Rector, Fr Frank Bertagnolli SDB, re%ected on the di#erence independent schools made in student’s lives, and the heritage of the Salesian education in the world today. Guests were entertained by a musical performance of striking quality

from six of the most recent Dominic College graduates. A specially prepared birthday cake for the celebration of the bicentenary of the birth of St John Bosco, founder of the Salesians, was cut and shared.

Fr Denis Allen returned to speak to students at an assembly, about his student days at Boys’ Town, and his 50 years as a priest. A Don Bosco birthday cake is cut at the event. Old scholars from the Class of 2014 provided musical entertainment. Old scholar Viv Curtain visited us for the ANZAC Centenary performance and met Year 10 student Tenille Doyle, who plays his aunt.

International Women’s and Men’s Days!ese two days are now signi"cant events on the annual College Calendar, and it has become a traditional opportunity for old scholars to meet and listen to a special guest, as well as join with students and parents. !is year, our special guests were Ms Katrina Gregg for the Women’s Breakfast in February, and Dr Dominic Chan, for the Men’s Breakfast in November.

Celebrating the Bicentenary of the birth of St John BoscoIn addition to the celebrations at the College Colours in March, old scholars also celebrated with the College during the Family Feast Day in May and during the special assembly in August, reported elsewhere.

Visits and eventsWe enjoyed a number of visits from some signi"cant old scholars including Viv Curtain, and Tony Clark, whose stories were included in Veritas 2015, and were able to also assist some old scholars with records for their research.

Fr Denis Allen, a student at Boys’ Town in the 1940s, celebrated 50 years as a priest this year, and returned to talk to our assembly about his time here in his formative youth.

A number of students from the Class of 1985 visited for a tour of the College prior to their reunion in September. Further reunions for the reunions of 1975, 1995 and 2005 are scheduled for November, too late for publication in this Yearbook.

DOSA is preparing for the College Community Fair in November, and for graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2015. Mr Tony Webb would also like to extend a cordial invitation to all to attend the Old Scholars Christmas Eve Mass in the College Chapel – details will be advertised on our website.

ContactsMembership of the Dominic Old Scholars Association is free and without obligation. Our annual magazine Veritas, is posted to those whose addresses are held. Old scholars are invited to stay in touch with our news by visiting our College website, and by liking and following us on Facebook. Old scholars

1815-2015 DOSA Football Club report!e 2015 season had many highlights of which we are all proud, even though we "nished o# with grand "nal losses.

From our own Adam Wilson being recognised with the Old Scholars Association Best and Fairest award to the way the club as a whole rallied around Simon Harris our reserves coach, when his nephew Alex was diagnosed with a brain tumour, the spirit of the club really showed that when you are a part of the DOSA family you will always have support in any situation. !e courage and determination shown by Simon during this time should be an inspiration to us all.

I would like to thank the coaches for their commitment over the year. !e last four years have been amazing ride for the football club - four consecutive senior grand "nals, three out of four reserves grand "nals, the 2013 senior premiership and the 2012 and 2014 reserves premierships. !e professionalism and commitment coach Justin O’Brien has shown has taken the DOSA football club to a new level and I’m sure the imprint he has left on so many players throughout his time as the senior coach will continue to live on for many years to come.

To all of our sponsors the Carlyle Hotel, Hutchinson Builders, !e Wagon and Horses Sports Bar, Get Real Work Wear, Salamanca Financial, C&S Maintenance and Joinery, Howrah Plumbing, Skintech, Signrite and Village Dry Cleaners, thank you - without the support of these businesses and many, many individuals, we would not exist.

We look forward to an exciting season on and o# the "eld and hope to see many current and old scholars supporting the Roosters in 2016.

1815-2015 Capital DevelopmentDance StudioWork on the upgrade of the dance studio was completed in early 2015. !e upgraded space (recently renamed as !e Oratory Space) is a fully functional training and performance space.

Upgrades to !e Oratory Space include high quality audio visual equipment, fully installed lighting grid, acoustic curtains and ceiling, entry foyer with sound lock doors, back stage area, additional storage areas, new box windows to allow for natural light for class teaching, and a %exible elevated seating system with a capacity to seat 110 audience members. A generous contribution from the Parents and Friends Committee of $20,000 has allowed us to purchase six new LED theatre lights and a new mobile lighting board.

Bosco Classrooms!e Bosco Classroom refurbishment has been split into two stages. Stage 1, which was the refurbishment of the boys and girl toilets, is now complete and has been fully operational from the start of Term 1. !ese new facilities include self-contained cubicles and glazed doors at the main entrance to improve student safety and supervision, and ensure that previously identi"ed potential bullying hot spots (due to the poor design of the previous facilities) has been resolved.

Stage 2 of the project which includes the refurbishment of four classrooms, upgrades to the Bosco corridor, and installation of new covered walkway, is now underway. All works are planned for completion in time for the return of students at the start of Term 1. All 7-10 general learning areas will then be to contemporary classroom standards and the addition of a covered walkway between the Bosco and Guzman corridor will vastly improve student movement and equitable

access at the College. !e installation of the new covered walkway will help to better de"ne the active ball sports area (top basketball court) and the grassed sitting area outside the Siena classrooms by providing additional stepped seating for the viewing of sporting activities and a sunny sheltered plaza feel for the area outside the Siena classrooms.

In addition to the structural changes, classrooms will also have upgraded furniture, new carpets, new lighting, signi"cantly upgraded heating, new blinds, new operable sash windows and glass partitioned walls between classrooms. !ese changes will improve the comfort and help brighten up the existing classrooms. !e glass partitioned walls will improve passive supervisor, allow for team teaching and provide two new larger meeting spaces for house and class meetings.

With the completion of the above works, we are expecting a very lively start to

Term 1 2016 as both students and sta# settle into the new classrooms and adjoining spaces.

Creative Arts RedevelopmentA proposal has been submitted to the Capital Projects Committee for a substantial upgrade to the current "ne arts and music spaces for K-10 classes. Plans for the redevelopment include two "ne arts classrooms, three new sound proof music classrooms, a new area for media studies and "ve new music practice rooms with adjoining recording room.

If successful in our bid for additional funding, the completion of the project will enable the centralisation of all creative arts facilities allowing all K-10 creative arts subjects to be taught from the one location and ensures all students bene"t from the redevelopment. !is is a very exciting project and if our bid is successful, will signi"cantly boost the quality of the College’s creative arts facilities.

1815-2015

!e Parents and Friends Community is more than just a few parents and friends getting together once a month. !e P&F are a voice for the community and a forum for the exchange of ideas between the Principal, College and the wider Dominic community. !ey are a major source of fundraising for minor and major projects to support the College in many ways and assist in providing the best possible facilities and educational opportunities for our students and much, much more. We have a wonderful and dedicated group of parents and friends who regularly attend the monthly meetings which are very informative and often include some very interesting guest speakers. !e P&F are always welcoming of more members from the college community. Every month there is always something else we could be doing rather than attending P&F meetings. But it comes down to choice and what is important to us. And the answer is the same for us all: we care about our children, their education and the facilities in which they learn. !e P&F Community is our chance to make a di#erence and contribute in ways to continually improve our College for the bene"t of our children and other students.

Assistance, donations, participation and volunteering by students, parents and friends make all the di#erence to our fundraising e#orts. Without that help we could not achieve the purchase of items. Our thanks go out to everyone in the community for supporting the e#orts of the P&F.

All of our regular events on the calendar were very prosperous again this year. A very enthusiastic Fair committee consisting of Christine Smith, Anne Lacy, Nicola Rayner, Pam Cosker, and myself, with assistance from Sharon Cook and Krystal Bannister, worked tirelessly to make our College Fair a huge event to be enjoyed by all. !e Fair held in November last year was our biggest

and best in the College history, with a pro"t of over $18,000. !e Easter ra&e was our biggest ever with more donations and tickets sold than any other year. We raised over $3,000 and made many people happy winning Easter baskets. !e annual Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls were visited and enjoyed by most of the students. !e K-6 Disco night was a big success with a great turn out of students. !e lighting and music were so great even the teachers couldn’t help but join the students on the dance %oor. It was a night enjoyed by all. Other fundraising events included the Pied Piper Photography Day, barbecues, grow-your-own plants and herbs, and the Milo/Hot Chocolate and Pyjama Day, which had students lining up for their hot drinks, all in their colourful and %u#y PJ’s.

!is year’s Fair was simply amazing. !e weather cleared and it turned out to be a warm sunny afternoon. !e Sand’s Family Circus was a big hit with the students and adults alike. 7HOFM had a live broadcast from the Fair and bought along Brothers3 to perform live in front of a big audience in the Savio Centre. !e Gee Whizzer made it this year and was constantly full. Everyone enjoyed the range of entertainment and varied food stalls. !e class stalls were all very busy and much e#ort was put in by teachers and students. $29,000 was totalled at the end of the evening which is an awesome e#ort by everyone who attended, donated or assisted at the Fair.

!e money raised from the fundraising e#orts throughout the year was spent wisely. $20,000 was contributed to the Oratory Space for the lighting grid. All students will continue to gain bene"ts from the system implemented. $5,000 worth of equipment was bought for the 7-10 Kitchen and Mamma Margaret’s Kitchen. Over $10,000 was spent on new water stations this year

for "lling drink bottles with fresh "ltered water. !e money raised from last year’s walkathon was added to other fundraising e#orts to purchase and install these units. It was wonderful to see the water stations being "tted in the middle of the year. Originally we were looking at only three stations, but were able to secure a fourth as well. !e "rst was placed in the 7-10 area, the second at the Savio Centre, the third in the K-4 area and the "nal station was placed in the 5-6 area which also services students on the main oval. Students throughout the college are continually making great use of these facilities.

Money raised was also used to sponsor College Awards, the Sister Athanasius Fund, Christmas Craft, games for the Friendly Kids Club, end of year icy poles and more.

We have funds in our bank account to allocate and spend in the "rst meetings of 2016. If anyone would like to assist in the suggestion-making process of how the funds can be distributed, come along to the monthly meetings and make a di#erence in the lives of the students.

Mrs Sharon Cleland, President Parents & Friends Community 2015.
