A walk along the two-and-a-half-mile Freedom Trail is one of the best ways to get acquainted with Boston and to efficiently visit the city's bounty of historic landmarks.

It's hard to miss the gleaming gold dome of the Massachusetts State House as you exit Boston Common. Boston is the capital of Massachusetts, and the State House is the second stop on The Freedom Trail.

The Massachusetts State House is an architectural masterpiece designed by Charles Bulfinch.

It was completed in 1798.

The Granary Burial Ground is the final resting place for legendary Boston figures including Samuel Adams, Peter Faneuil, John Hancock and, as you can see at right, Paul Revere.

Boston's Old Corner Bookstore is now The Boston Globe Store.

This building was home in the mid-1800s to Ticknor and Fields Publishing House.

The Old South Meetinghouse was the largest building in Colonial Boston and a natural gathering spot for the colonists as they grew increasingly weary of English rule. A group of colonists got so stirred up about the tea tax here on December 16, 1773, that they left the Old South Meetinghouse for the harbor, where they dumped a boatload of tea into the sea--we know this historic event as the Boston Tea Party.

Boston Public Garden, located along Charles Street adjacent to Boston Common, is the nation's oldest botanical garden. The famous Swan Boats have returned to Boston Public Garden each spring.

On a sunshine-filled summer afternoon, there is perhaps no better place to be in all of New England than Fenway Park, historic home of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox. Baseball fans have been energized and agonized by the exploits of some of baseball's greatest players at Fenway since 1912.
