As we kick off the new fiscal year this April, I want to take a moment to recognize our successes and challenges that we’ve been sharing with you monthly in the little bar graphs below, charting our work against our annual goals. While these three metrics: on- site member sign ups, visitation and volunteer hours do not define all that we have accomplished across our network of 56 community gardens and parks, they help us measure our impact. Last year, ten gardens reported in their volunteer hours, surging us ahead of our 1,000 hour goal to 5,000 hours! A big thank you to Berkeley CG, West Springfield CG, Rutland & Washington CG, Brookside CG, Mission Hill CG, Joe Ciampa CG, Kitteredge Green, Lenox & Kendall CG, Minton Stable CG and Symphony CG for their participation. This metric is so important for us to both factor into our garden management plans and grant requests, and I urge the garden coordinators who have not yet started to give Annie a call and get your garden’s volunteer hours in this upcoming year! We hit close to our expected number of garden visitors, hosting just over 293,00 individual visits to our gardens and pop up installations this past year. This was made possible primarily by the generosity of our gardeners welcoming their neighbors to learn about and share the bounty and beauty of their gardens. Nearly 16,000 people participated in our programs last year. We have received a number of program feedback surveys and will continue to use these to strengthen our engagement offerings. Our supporters grew by 89 people choosing to sign up as members at our programs and events this year. While we didn’t hit the goal of 125, we came so close and will continue to push for this in the next year. As we set our goals for next year, we will roll back these graphs back to zero and look forward to once again partnering with our volunteers and gardeners to help grow our reach and services to an even wider audience in the upcoming season.
