Estrellas de la LíneaDirector: Chema Rodríguez

Las Estrellas de la Línea is the name of a women’s Guatemalan football team that was founded by a group of women working in the sex industry in order to confront societal attitudes towards them and highlight the dangers they faced.

Through football they hoped to put a human face to the stereotype of the ‘sex worker’. Their dream was to be treated with dignity and to live without police harrassment and the daily violence that threatened their lives. Although their reasons for working in the sex industry may vary some have their message is unequivocal: "Before we are prostitutes we are women and mothers!"

the pursuit of everything.Directors: Helena Lopes and Paulo Nuno

Lopes

Helena Lopes and Paulo Nuno Lopes spent ten years asking people if they were happy. They interviewed American students at an elite university and Nepalese shepherds who said the earth was flat. There they met four undergraduate students who made a point of reinventing life everyday, which made them think about what they had been doing all these years. So Paulo and Helena took a journey back in time and tried to rid themselves of all the wrong ideas life had taught them in the pursuit of enlightment, creativity and fun.

República Dominicana: Yuniol

Director: Alfonso Rodríguez

"Yuniol" Perez (Shalim Ortiz) and Alberto "Junior" Rios (Frank Perozo) come from opposite sides of the tracks in the Dominican Republic. Aloof and detached, Alberto comes from a wealthy family. Driven and focused, Juan is reared by a devoted mother whose affection makes up for the absence of his father. Juan and his mother survive in a tough and impoverished Barrio on the outskirts of the capital city.

Behind every happy moment lies an ominous sense of despair. Yet the joyful Dominican way of life for those surviving on the margins serves as a testament to people anywhere confronted with

poverty and injustice.

This is a hypnotic Brazilian film. Directed by Vicente Amorim, it's set in the wide open expanses of the North of the country as a poor family is seen traveling toward Rio on bicycles. The movie gives us a sense of the enormity of some of the arid landscape the family traverses in order to get to a place where the father, Romao, could get a decent job that would pay him, at least, a sum, that in his mind will be enough to take care of his wife and

five children.
