Your donations to the Angel Fund ensured that both of these beautiful dogs were restored to total health, and the best news of all is that each of them has found the perfect family. Rider, who came to us from Muncie Animal Control, overcame severe mange, malnutrition, and infections in her eyes and bladder during the eight weeks she was in foster care. Rider (now named Rae) lives in Indianapolis and is the pride of her mom and dad as she’s now recognized along her long walks on the Monon Trail. Janey, as you may recall, had been tied to our fence in the middle of the night. After she chewed- through her leash, she ran off and was hit by a car. Janey’s pelvic fracture amounted to more than $4,000 in repairs. Thanks to you, Janey made a complete recovery, and her first day available for adoption was during the K105 K9 Klassic 5K for the Allen County SPCA. Janey’s adopters met her there and returned to the shelter the following day to take her home. Now a regular at her dad’s place of employment, Janey gets all the attention she so richly deserves. On behalf of those two great dogs and the hundreds of other animals whose treatments are paid for by the Angel Fund, thank you. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE By: Jessica Henry

Our kitten shower was a success! Now, the Allen County SPCA wants you to Show Me the Mommy! Kitten season is in full swing, and unwanted litters of kittens are flooding shelters everywhere! Allen County cat owners who have unexpected litters at home can reach out to the ACSPCA for help.

We will take your weaned litter of kittens, around 8 weeks of age, and get Momma Cat spayed FOR FREE! We may want you to bring the litter in for a few rounds of vaccines (also at no cost to the pet owner) just to make sure they are protected before entering the shelter environment. Once the kittens enter the shelter, they can be spayed/neutered, brought up to date on vaccines, microchipped and placed in our adoption program. This stops the cycle of reproduction and, in turn, reduces cat overpopulation.

If you live in Allen County and would like to take advantage of this offer, please give us a call! 260-744-0454, ext. 206. This promotion is for owned indoor cats. Outdoor cat owners needing spay/neuter assistance can reach out to Jenn Cherry, Community Cat Coordinator, at H.O.P.E. for Animals at 260-440-8893. Together, we WILL reduce cat overpopulation in Allen County!

Robin Clemens, a pre-school teacher by day, has been volunteering with the Allen County SPCA since 2004. Robin enjoys socializing and exercising the cats, and she really enjoys working with the cats that are shy. She loves it when her hard work pays off and those shy cats warm up to people and find great homes. Robin also helps out at outreach and adoption events including the Northern Indiana Pet Expo and PetSmart Charities’ National Adoption Weekends. Robin has two cats of her own at home: Velvet, a tuxedo cat that loves to chase bird shadows on the wall, and a mischievous tiger cat that Robin adopted from the Allen County SPCA. When Robin is not volunteering at the Allen County SPCA, her favorite hobby is ballroom dancing. Robin is a consistent and dedicated volunteer. Please join the Allen County SPCA in showing our support and praise for Robin Clemens!

Well, another fabulous Pet Expo has come and gone, and despite our move from April to June, the weekend, overall, was a great success. Best of all 85 dogs and cats were adopted, and that’s a very good thing, indeed! Next year’s Pet Expo is scheduled for June 24-25, and then we’ll decide whether or not to return the event to spring or keep it in the summer. Once again, I want to thank everyone who attended and exhibited at the Pet Expo and, of course, to our sponsors who enable us to present the Northern Indiana Pet Expo year after year: Vera Bradley, the Petco Foundation, Bob Rohrman Subaru of Fort Wayne, Heritage Parts, Elanco Animal Health, Pawsitively Paradise Pet Resort, Paw’s-n-Claw’s Pet Care Palace, Hupe Insurance, Kaleidoscope Floors, Patterson Veterinary, Re/Max Home Connection, Stewart Brimner Peters Insurance, NBC33, 21Alive and K105. We are so grateful to all of you!

And now we turn to the next signature event, our fall fundraiser in early October. Stay tuned as exciting developments transpire In the meantime. I hope you and your pets are enjoying a safe and happy summer!

In Honor of Nathan and Thom’s Wedding

WE ARE IN HEAT!

For the last two weeks, we’ve been sweating up a storm at the Allen County SPCA! That’s right, as temps soared into the 90’s, one of our ancient air conditioning units decided that it was time to go. And go, it did. Estimates to replace the decades-old contraption ranged from $11-15,000! Fortunately, Fire & Ice HVAC found a new “scratch & dent” model and now, we only had $6,200 to come up with. Still, this unanticipated expense was a hit to our wallet. Enter lots of our supporters like Heritage Parts, Peg Perego, Little Vegas, Quadrant and a generous individual, and we’ve raised over $2,700. Can you help us keep our cool? Your tax-deductible donation will enable us and the animals here to breathe a refreshing sigh of relief! (We’d like to thank, too, our friends and former adopters at Martin, Inc. for donating the crane and Pete Henry for helping with the wiring! It takes a village, and we have the best villagers around!)
