Pirates smash Lions
ANOTHER week of Katherinerugby union saw even more enter-taining rugby action at the Sportand Rec oval last Friday night.
The first and only game of thenight was a hotly contested onebetween the in form Pirates andthe Lions, with the Lions trying topick up an upset victory.
It was decided the game wouldbe played with two, thirty minutehalves.
The first half was a tense oneand took a little bit of magic to getthe scoring underway.
The Pirates played long ballsout to the flanks until it fell into
the hands of the last man on thewing, who kicked the ball alongthe ground in front of him and ranonto it himself to put it over for agreat opening try.
But it was quickly cancelledout as the Lions scored a nice try of their own to level the game7-7.
But the game wasn't level forvery long as a break down thewing set up an easy try for the Pi-rates to go into the break leadingby a try.
Half Time Score:Pirates 14 Lions 7.
The Lions started the secondhalf looking like the had some-thing to prove as they dominatedthe early stages of the half tosmash their way over for a tough
try and draw level once again. But the Pirates quickly went
back to showing why they werefavourites before the game as theytook back control of the game andscored another easy try to putthem back in front.
The last try of the night cameas, on his 39th birthday, RodneyHoffman broke through the Lionsdefence, drew the last defendersand laid it off to Anthony Buschfor him to easily score the Piratesfourth of the night.
