P R I N C I P A L ’ S M E S S A G E S C H O O L N E W S

Na onal Day of Ac on Against Bullying and Violence  Last  Friday  was  the  Na onal  Day  of  Ac on  against Bullying and Violence. Our SMILE  leaders  led the way all day delivering the "Let's Take a Stand. Bullying No Way!" message  during  lessons with  all  classes  from Kinder to Year 10. We kicked off the day with a whole school  photo with  students  proudly  saying  "Bullying No Way!'  Students were  all  given  the  day  of  ac on wristbands and were talking about ways to make sure our school  is a safe and happy place  for everyone. A special thankyou goes out to all of the SMILE mentors in  Years  10,  11  and  12  for  their  prepara on  in designing  quality  lessons  for  the  whole  school  and showing leadership in this very important cause. Principal’s Message Such a busy and produc ve Term 1 has also meant that me has passed  very  swi ly. We  are  already planning 

our  tradi onal  end  of  tem  ac vi es  such  as  the  Term Assembly,  Gold  Day  and  of  course  the  very  popular Easter  Hat  Parade.  All  these  things  are  wonderful opportuni es  for  parents,  carers  and  community members  to be  involved with our  school. Please  check this  newsle er  for  mes  and  details.  It  has  been  a terrific start to the year and  it would be great to share the end of term with all.  This  Thursday  evening  is  the  next  opportunity  to support  the  Bowraville  Central  School  P&C.  We  shall meet in T Block (near the canteen) from 6:00pm so that we can be close to the ac on of the School Social, also happening  on  Thursday  evening  in  the  school gymnasium.  It would  be  great  to  have welcome  your involvement in this way. I shall be revisi ng the 2015‐17 School Plan as part of my report to the P&C.  Looking ahead  to next  term, we are very excited  to be hos ng  Dr  Chris  Sarra  here  in  Bowraville!  Chris’s fabulous work  as  the  Principal  of  Cherbourg  school  in Queensland and then the founder of the now na onally significant  Stronger  Smarter  Ins tute  is  incredibly inspiring.  Following  a  community  presenta on  on Sunday  19th  April  at  the  Bowraville  Theatre,  Chris will lead  a whole day of  learning  for  staff  from  across  the region on Monday 20th April,  and  then on  Tuesday he will  spend  his  final  few  hours  with  us  working  with students.   The  theme  of  Chris  Sarra’s  visit  is  “High  Expecta ons Rela onships”. In all things at Bowraville we a empt to have  high  expecta ons  of  ourselves,  and  each  other. Please see the informa on in this newsle er so that you may  be  able  to  hear  for  yourself  this  wonderfully respec ul,  strengths‐based  message  from  this  very significant Australian, Dr Chris Sarra.  Have a great week. Malcolm McFarlane

RED CROSS CALLING 2015  Last Saturday a group of students par cipated  in  the Annual Red Cross Door Knock around Bowraville. The group consis ng of Ben Reynolds, Jonah de  la Hunty, Brodie  Shields,  Kira  Goodwin  and  Trista  Richards raised  nearly  $600  towards  the  cyclone  relief  in Northern  Queensland.  A  special  thank  you  to  Kate Henderson  and  Melinda  Low  for  volunteering  their weekend.  Mr Mason.

BOWRAVILLE THEATRE – April/May 2015 Wednesday 1st April at 10am Bell Shakespeare Players will perform ‘Macbeth, Undone’, this performance is mainly for schools, but the public are welcome. Entry fee is.  Saturday 25th April at 5.00pm the Film Society will be screening a double feature, the first film will be ‘The Remains of the Day’ starring Anthony Hopkins, James Fox and Emma Thompson. The second film is about Vivian Bullwinkel, An Australian Heroine who lived life to the full as a Second World War Nursing Sister, a POW, a survivor, and a beloved Matron, she pushed herself further and rose to become President of The Royal College of Nursing, Australia and was one of the key figures to create University Educa on for nurses.  In May we will be welcoming Chrissie Shaw to our Theatre with her Award winning show ‘Bijou’ so keep Saturday the 23rd May at 7pm free to enjoy the performance. Chrissie has appeared on our stage before to great acclaim so watch out for further publicity about this show.
