Types of Printing Methods
Printing Method
Description
Advantages
(lexo *ine
The most basic type of printing on corrugated.
!llows the addition of company or pacage content info to the surface of the box, at a relatively low
cost. +raphics tend to be basic line art and text, utilizing between and - colours.
(lexo rocess
)sed for higher end graphics utilizing the / process colours. t provides a stronger visual impact, and
enables photo uality images to be used.
Because / colour print plates are reuired, the total print plate costs tend to be more expensive than
(lexo *ine. 0inimum run uantities tend to be much higher than (lexo line.
(lood $oated
!llows the use of a solid 112 coverage of colour. 0ost commonly used with 3 displays and
pacaging for retail applications.
(lood coats can be applied with stoc print plates, so die costs are not an expense for the client.
*abel *aminate
!chieved by gluing printed sheets to the outer surface of the corrugated material. 4nables the
application of a glossy process colour 5photo uality6 image, and is a reasonable cost option for low to
medium uantity runs. *abel size is limited by the maximum sheet size of most commercial presses 578"
x /1"6.
t provides a clean professional appearance that loos comparable to high end pacaging similar to that
used with software and electronics. *abels can be applied as a 112 coverage, or as a spot label in

9creen rint
!nother way of applying graphic intensive images directly to the outer surface of the corrugated
pacage.
This process is most commonly used for 3 displays and retail pacaging applications, and can be
more cost effective is short run uantities. 9ize limitations are larger than label laminate, and colour
combinations greater than / are possible.
*itho *aminaterovides a similar finished product as label laminate, but reuires much higher minimum runs 5typically
1:71;6.
The printed surface is actually part of the pacaging material, as opposed to label laminate which is
added manually.
reprint
roviding a similar finished product to (lexo process, this process involves the client purchasing pre
printed rolls of paper that are used in manufacturing linerboard.
t reuires very high volume runs, and a significant upfront investment by the client, but can be a cost
effective way to apply impactful graphics at those uantities. 0ost commonly used in the food and
beverage industry, lie beer cases and mandarin orange boxes.
Corrugated Board Strength
Board strength are all the factors that define how strong the box should be. There are a number of
uestions you must as yourself before you can accurately asses how strong a particular box should be
manufactured to be such as#
The nature of the products being pacaged
The total weight of the box
The size of the box
&ow the cardboard box will be staced, stored, and transported.
Boxmaster provides you with two different levels of customization options when selecting box strength.
The first is the flute type and the second is using the edge crush test.

Edge Crush TestThe 4dge $rush Test is simply a method used to determine the "stacing" or "crushing" of a piece of
corrugated board. The test is conducted to determine the force that will crush a containerboard standing
on an edge. The 4$T will determine the probable compression strength of the container made from the
board.
