Troop Committee Roles

• The Troop Committee serves as the Troop's Board of Directors and supports the Troop’s program by logistical planning for activities, merit badges, community service, district/troop camps, & high adventures

• Advises the Scoutmaster on policies relating to Boy Scouting and the chartered organization. Also ensuring adequate adult supervision for all camps and activities.

• Is responsible for finances, adequate funds, and in line with the approved budget plan

• Addresses all Troop disciplinary issues & troop policies updates

Scoutmaster(s) Roles

• Scoutmaster(s) attend the Troop Committee Meeting regularly

• Plan and Coordinate all troop meetings in conjunction with the Assistant Scoutmasters to help scouts complete rank requirements & develop scouting skills

• Work with Junior Leaders & ASM to plan the Troop Meeting Agenda

• Meet regularly with the patrol leaders' council (PLC) to receive progress on patrol’s activities & progress

• Conduct Scoutmaster Conferences for all rank advancements

Requirements towards Eagle Rank

Boy Scouts start working on these requirements upon Joining:

Complete 20 camping nights (camping merit badge requirement)

• Summer (6), Winter (3), Spring (2), Fall (2) & High Adventure (6-8) will

count towards camping nights

• One long-term camping experience of up to six consecutive nights

may be applied toward this requirement (updated camping MB

requirement)

• How to earn 20 nights = 6+3+3+2+2+2+2 = 2 years (7 camps)

• Troop Spring & Fall is required for all boy scouts especially if holding a

leadership position during those 6-months

Completion of 23 Merit Badges

• 23+ Merit Badges (minimum required)

• 13 are Eagle MB required

• Merit badges: Attend 2-3 summer camps & 2-3 winter camp, local

merit badge sessions or district merit badge colleges

Advancement Process

• Each rank has a certain set of requirements that needs to be

completed before they are eligible for BOR.

• Troop meetings are dedicated to having scouts sit in individual

rank sessions according to their current rank

• The older scouts, who have been given the rank of instructor,

work with ASMs to cover specific requirements every class.

• The scouts learn skills such as emergency responses, first

aide, knots, lashings, and other valuable skills.

Advancement Process

• Initial ranks (New Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class and First

Class) advancements by mastering scouting and life skills of

increasing complexity.

• Star and Life ranks require completion of varying numbers of

merit badges and also practicing the previous rank’s skills,

along with service hours and fulfilling a leadership role in the

troop.

• The highest rank, Eagle, requires completion of 23 merit

badges, including 13 required merit badges, development and

execution of a service project involving supervision and

leadership of others, and holding a position of leadership in

the troop.

• Guide the Eagle Scout candidate during the Eagle Project Process

• Mentor the Life Scout on: Eagle Project Ideas, Planning & Carrying-out the Project & Assist on the Eagle Project Binder

• Coordinate with District Advancement to schedule the Eagle Project Proposal Meeting, Schedule the Eagle BORs and provide 2-deepleaders for Eagle Projects and Eagle BORs

• Assist the Boy Scout in gathering any Project equipment needed to carry out the Eagle Project

• Due to the large number of scouts in the troop, email is the most efficient method of communication.

Communications

• Youth Leader Scout Communication

• When a patrol leader needs to contact a patrol member,

he may use whatever means of communication is most

efficient and appropriate.

• When communicating to the entire patrol, a patrol leader

must EMAIL and ask for confirmation upon receiving

• All patrol communications via email must have the

SPL and Scoutmaster copied on the message.

• E-mail is the only official means of communication to

ensure accountability.

Communications to Scoutmaster

• Scout → Adult Leader Communication

• A scout must exhaust all other youth resources prior to

contacting an adult leader. At this point, the scout can

contact the Scoutmaster by email

Troop Attendance Policy

• All Scouts should maintain the attendance of 85% to be eligible to take a Board of Review

• If a scout is absent for a scout meeting, activities, or duties, he is allowed tomake up the absent by attending extra Jamatkhane duties.

• All scouts must be on time in order to be marked present for any scheduled troop meeting. The troop has a strict policy on tardiness (3 Tardies = 1 absent)

• Boy Scouts can give duty on Friday and Chandraat to increase their attendance.

• Boy Scout should arrive on duty at least 30 min. before Du’a time in full uniform.

• If a scout arrives late, he will be marked absent and will not be able to give duty and sent inside Jamatkhane to join the Ceremonies.

• Discipline Policy: Any activity which is illegal or prohibited, including bullying, fighting, or interferes with the program are grounds to disciplinary actions by the Scout Leaders and/or the Troop Committee.

Life Skill Sessions- Star/Life Rank

• September 8, 2019: Teach scouts how to create a high school resume(ie:

Resume might be needed for high school internships/jobs, applying for

college high school programs, scholarship applications, and college

applications.

• October 13, 2019: Mock Interviews- Teach scouts how to interview. (ie: High

School internships/jobs, eagle board of reviews, scholarship interviews and

College interviews). We will bring in Professionals to interview Scouts and

give them feedback.

• November 3, 2019: Career Panel- We will bring professionals from different

career backgrounds so scouts can learn about different careers and ask

questions to get a better understanding on what they want to do in the

future.

• December 1, 2019: Dining Etiquette 101: Teach scouts about table settings.

Also, teach scouts how to eat and how to act during lunch will make a huge

impression during meetings and interviews(ie: high school luncheon, college

interview lunch, job interview, and scholarship interview lunch).

Troop & Patrol Meetings

Troop Meetings

• All scouts must attend in full uniform unless the e-mail says differently.

• All scouts must come prepared: BSA Handbook, backpack, pen, notebook, compass, 3 dandiya sticks, 6 feet rope.

• Troop Meetings will count for double attendance. (2 Presents or 2 Absence).

• The usage of cell phones is prohibited within Troop Meetings.

Patrol Meetings:

• Scouts must attend their patrol meetings & must participate in patrol activities. Scout has to maintain 85% or above patrol meeting attendance in order to advance to the next rank.

• Patrol leader decides & communicates about the date, time & venue of the patrol meetings.

• Sometimes Patrol Meetings are after Troop meetings (decided by Patrol Leader).
