Info• The intersection of 19th Av-

enue & Oak Street in Bozeman, Montana is considered an entry corridor to the city. As such, the city of Bozeman required Hawkins Companies and their partners to create the center in a way that would make visitors feel welcome to this mountain community by utilizing architec-tural designs that are unique to the city. When a visitor enters Bozeman, they will notice a truly unique shopping center with its unprecedented design features. This includes a clock tower, extravagant parapet wall details, large timber columns, rock material facades, and an open-air plaza.

• To add to the complexity, this shopping center was part of a Planned Unit Development and Hawkins Companies was required to modify the general plan and amend the zoning, which took over two years. The challenge Hawkins Companies faced was to blend general commercial retail (Sportsman’s Warehouse, Cost Plus, Office Depot and REI) with community commercial retail. The objective was achieved and the result was a blend of the large box center with pedestrian scaled retail.
