Over time, it is planned that the two products will overlap less and less

Version for SAP NetWeaver, will be optimized for SAP customers through

integration to other SAP applications and EPM solutions

Version for the Microsoft platform, will continue to be invested in as a best of

breed, unified planning and consolidation system.

© SAP 2008 / Page 9

SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation 7.0, version for the Microsoft platform, is an

evolutionary release from 5.1, and customers will be able to upgrade with minimal effort

A 5.1 to 7.0 version for the Microsoft platform is similar in effort to applying a Support Package to 5.1

There is full backwards compatibility for all functionality in 5.1

7.5 version for the Microsoft platform, is an evolutionary release from the 7.0 release - very little is involved with performing the upgrade

There is no direct upgrade path from 5.1 to 7.0, version for SAP NetWeaver but migration tools may

exist

A migration from 5.1 to 7.0 version for SAP NetWeaver is more involved than an upgrade because 7.0 version for SAP NetWeaver is not the successor release to 5.1 and does not contain full backwards compatibility

The migration tools automate a significant portion of the migration, however there are specific components that will require

manual rework, and some components that will not migrate at all

It is completely optional to migrate to the version for SAP NetWeaver. Customers who wish to stay on the version for the

Microsoft platform may continue to do so, and upgrade to the successor release (7.0, version for the Microsoft platform)

SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation Version Decision Tree For SAP Customers

A standard upgrade path will be available for

customers to easily move from BPC 7.0 MS to

BPC 7.5 MS (similar to moving from BPC 5.1

to BPC 7.0 MS)

Are BPFs, BEx reporting on BPC, and drill through mandatory

requirements?

BPC 7.0 NW + How To Guides *

Yes No

BPC 7.0 NW

Does the customer prefer a Microsoft-based platform or is this an existing BPC MS

customer and they want the exact look/feel/functionality of the BPC MS release?

Yes No

BPC 7.0 MSMigrating from Planning and Consolidation 7.0, version for the Microsoft platform to 7.5, version for SAP NetWeaver

A migration tool is planned to be developed

by the EPM RIG to migrate from BPC 7.0

MS to BPC 7.5 NW. This should be

comparable to migration tools developed to

migrate from BPC 5.1 to BPC 7.0 NW.

Upgrading from Planning and Consolidation 7.0, version for the Microsoft platform to 7.5, version for the Microsoft platform

*A How To Guide is available to enable BPF-like

functionality (via Custom Menus). Other How-To-Guides are being considered for enabling BEx Queries on BPC and Drill-through to ERP – both scenarios have already

been implemented with some customers

** The customer can implement BPC 7.0 MS now and

migrate to BPC 7.5 NW when available (expected

Ramp-Up late H2 09 – subject to change)

Are workarounds/custom solutions acceptable?

Do you need to begin your project before BPC 7.5 is available?

Selling Strategies

Find the RIGHT solution for the customer – BPC NW is a

clear differentiator – don’t be afraid to use it! No other 3rd

party can touch the degree of integration we have with NW

(business user flexibility + alignment with SAP standardization strategy)

BPC NW is stable with significant strides towards functional parity already made with service pack releases and how-to

guides

Migration between versions is not a push button exercise – if

it makes sense to be on the version for SAP NW, do it now

instead of pushing migration down the road
