Early Learning Network (ELN) What is the Early Learning Network? What is “School Readiness”? BPI believes that the term “school ready” should be defined as children who: Have strong social skills. Are within an appropriate range of physical development. Can cope emotionally with being separated from their caregivers. Are relatively independent in their own personal care. Have a curiosity about the world and a desire to learn. Arrive in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten within a developmentally appropriate range of intellectual skills, when measured with reliable and ethical assessments. The Early Learning Network (ELN) is a strategic network of leaders from the early childhood care and education field. This network forms one of three wings of BPI's larger Dudley Children Thrive work and is designed to create a local infrastructure of interested parties charged with ensuring that children within the Dudley Village Campus (DVC) succeed in targeted aspects of school readiness.

Early Learning Network (ELN)What are the Goals of the ELN?

1. To ensure that every child within the Dudley Village Campus (DVC) enters a kindergarten or pre-kindergarten classroom “ready-to-learn” based on mental, physical, and academic developmental assessments that are culturally relevant and completed by qualified professionals.

2. To ensure quality learning opportunities are available to children and families across the DVC.

3. To identify and respond to the professional development needs of early learning care providers and talent within the DVC.

4. To create a “culture of care” among and between providers, families and children.

Early Learning Network (ELN)What are the Functions of the ELN?

1. Raise awareness of providers and families in the DVC that a network of care exists!

2. Engages parents and caretakers as leaders in the healthy development of their children, primarily through collaboration with the Dudley Children Thrive's School Readiness Roundtable.

3. Utilizing the definition of “school readiness” established by our Birth-to-Kindgergarten Workgroup to monitor and report on the overall school readiness of children living in and starting school in the DVC.

4. Create institutional alignment among early care and education providers.

5. Creating a comprehensive inventory of any and all care providers, families and children being served by those providers, and the database indicating how those providers are serving children from birth to their fifth birthday.

6. Strengthen what is currently being provided for early education and care in the DVC.

7. Identify services, providers or collaborative partnerships that are needed to strengthen child development across the DVC.
