The clients requested minor alterations to the existing fabric of the house as well as theaddition of new bathrooms, and new kitchen, living and exterior decklng areas.

The challenge was to devise efficient planning to accommodate a large famiiy withinthe constraints of a smaller {ootprint.

INITIATIVES. External scTeens can be closed {or a shady refuge.. Water collected from the roof is re-used in the laundry

and WC.. A fan in high ceiling space is used to work in summer /

winter mode (circulating warm air down in winter).. The existing house insulation has been upgraded.. Maximum solar gain and cross ventilation with high level

Rather than focusing on a larger building area to reduce material and energyconsumption, the owners were more concerned with we{l designed compact so-::providing flexibility to adapt to future needs. Retainlng much of the existlng si'-:: -
