Searching for Text
The “find” function allows you to search for text in a document. Once the text is found, you will be taken to that position in your document.

Open a Document
Start at the Main Menu (SPACEBAR-‐M)
Choose Word Processor (W)
Choose Open a document (O)
Use SPACEBAR navigate to open folder and the ‘tester.brl’ file
Press ENTER to select and open the folder and file.

Cursor Position
By default, the ‘find’ setting is set to search the document in the ‘forward’ direction. This means it will start at your current cursor position and search forward through your document.
In order for this to work well, you should place your cursor at the top of the document (SPACEBAR-‐1-‐2-‐3) before you execute the search.

To use the Find tool
Press SPACE-‐F
The Apex will say “Find: Forward or Back?” Press F for Forward and B for Back

Search for ‘broken’
Enter the word you want to search for. For this example, let’s search for ‘broken’.
Press ENTER to run the search.

When the search is run and the word found, the cursor will be placed under the first letter of the word.

Search for Next Occurrence
Search for the next occurrence of the word “broken” by pressing SPACE-‐N.
The BrailleNote Apex remembers the last text string entered and says,“Press ENTER for “broken” Press ENTER to run the search or enter a new word then ENTER to find.

Search for Next Occurrence cont’d
If the text is found, the cursor jumps to the next occurrence of the text you typed. BrailleNoteApex will read the line the word is found in.
If the text is not found, the BrailleNote Apex will say, “Cannot find.”

Search for Another Word
If you want to initiate a search for another word, press SPACE-‐F.
BrailleNote Apex will say, “Find: Search forward or back”.
Type F for forward and B for back.
At this point you can type in the next word you want to search for. Press ENTER.
No need to use the BACKSPACE key.
