BOOSTERS brain The human brain is divided into right and left hemispheres. Each side of the brain controls different functions or has some sort of influence on particular skills of an individual. The right-side of the brain has been, traditionally, associated with creativity, imagination and macro thinking while the left-side of the brain is often described as logical, linear and analytical. Most extra- curricular programs for children follow this right and left side dichotomy where one side of the brain is emphasized to the neglect of the other side. Consequently, children, at an early age, become acclimated to working one side of their brain at a time. Brain Boosters is a unique and innovative new children’s program that emphasizes “whole mind” development. Since the days of Pythagoras, math and music have long been considered closely connected. At Brain Boosters, both sides of the brain are stimulated using math and music – universal languages that transcend cultural, geographic or ethnic diversity. 1270 Chestnut Street Vancouver B.C. JELIC Ages 3-7The JELIC Brain Power library is composed of 450 enrichment boxes. Each box contains a problem, in one of six domains, along with tactile aids and tools to help a child solve the problem while they explore creative and procedural thinking.

During each math/logic segment of a Brain Boosters class, children will complete between 2 to 5 JELIC boxes. Each child’s progress for each box will be assessed and recorded in a Progress booklet. After a child completes a box, he or she must complete the review test in the Review booklet. There are seven levels in the JELIC curriculum ranging from Preschool to Grade 1 level problems.

HEADSTART MUSIC Ages 3-5In developing the right brain portion of Brain Boosters students will be involved in a 45 minute music class with multi-layered learning. Students will sing, play a variety of instruments including xylophones, as well as exploring creative movement. Each year students are given a new workbook to reinforce these concepts.

ORFF MUSIC Ages 5-7 The Orff method was created by composer and music educator, Carl Orff. It’s ultimate purpose is the enrichment of childhood through the development of inherent musicality in a natural and joyful environment. Older Brain Boosters’ students will attend a 45 minute music class which is based on the Orff method.Students will learn how to play the soprano recorder, ensemble music with xylophones, percussion work, rhythms, musical composition and movement/dance. Worksheets with musical concepts will be an integral part of each class. The Orff method provides an excellent supplement to students who are already studying an instrument.

MPM Ages 8-12MPM math is a supplemental math program for elementary-aged children. It utilizes a Personalized System of Learning (PSL) math curriculum, which motivates participants to develop analytical skills independently. Each week, students complete assigned class work and bring home work to complete during the week. Student completed work will be marked and returned back for corrections or instructor guidance. MPM math utilizes multi-process modelling in its curriculum materials to facilitate better understanding of math concepts and logic. Utilizing self-motivational tools and materials, MPM math will not only strengthen a child’s comprehension of math and logic, but also instill an enjoyment of learning math.
