Week 7
Dear Parents/CarersDear Parents/Carers
I can hardly believe that we have reached the end of another half term. Although it has been an incredibly difficult few weeks for us all, our community spirit and support of one another is enabling us to continue to be strong together as #teambrakenhale.
The work that the students as a whole are completing continues to impress us and the house points are piling up. I know as a parent trying to home school children myself the challenges this continues to bring, so a huge thank you for all you are doing at this time. Please don’t be hard on yourselves either, I know you are doing your best and nobody can expect more than that.

✋
Dear Parents/CarersI was really lifted this week by so many things including the wonderful Head of Year assemblies, the Fun Friday jokes, the lovely thank you messages to staff and an amazing box of cakes and punnets of fruit delivered to us in school yesterday - they really cheered up those of us on site - a big thank you to Laura and Ella for such a thoughtful gift.
This edition of Brakenhale at Home really speaks for itself so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and I hope that my own Fun Friday performance video gives you as many laughs as it has my family!!! (Click here to see it on youtube!)
Stay safe in the coming week and take care.
My very best wishes
Jane Coley

Jennetts House: Mr MayeWorking from home – This has its challenges with 2 young girls to home school as well as my routine which has to be good!!!! It's been going ok so far!!!
Easter Holidays - This was spent doing bits and pieces with my family at home, lots of chilling with Disney films, and educational stuff as both myself and my eldest Izzy love Expedition Unknown! We also watched Hunting Hitler which she was fascinated about, that the CIA have evidence he lived in south America after the war!
Rainbow - My girls are great and have done the pictures for the window
Funny pic - hmmmmmm see next page for my pic from the miss you message to the students...
NHS clapping - Yes we participate in this, the girls have to be ready for bed before and we clap away with some of our neighbours.
Keeping safe and active - With Asthma I was on the at risk list so I have stayed housebound, which has been tough when the girls go out for their walk/bike ride and I stay at home.... that said ihave done a minimum of 30 mins activity EVERYDAY since 21st march - 54 days and counting! (I have proof also! see photo... )
TV you been watching - Expedition Unknown, Hunting Hitler, Chicago PD, MED, FIRE, Blue Bloods, Hawaii 5-O, NCIS LA, Magnum PI 42
Jennetts House: Mr MayeHouse points are our way of rewarding you for all the amazing effort, hard work and determination you all show especially at this tough time when routines are not the same and you have had to adapt. Keep smashing your school work and the Fun Friday Challenges as these are recognition for YOU and your efforts, BUT collectively it helps and supports the wider community of your House.
A short personal message to end:
To everyone in Jennetts, in these tough times, reading and hearing about all the amazing things and work you are doing and completing fills me with so much pride to be your Head of House. You have fully embraced the challenges that we have been hit with and with your hard work and resilience you have managed to make steps forward with progress, through tough days and good days you have kept yourself going, and seeing you all do that too has helped and spurred ME on when I have had tough days. So thank youJennetts for making me proud and keep going and can't wait to see you all again soon!! –Mr Maye

Farley House: Miss WillimottDear Farley!
I hope you are all keeping well! A massive thank you from me for keeping up with your schoolwork during these strange times.
So, over the last 7 weeks, my life has changed – No Netball and not seeing my friends and family (I have been having weekly virtual meet ups with them!). I have had to work out what to do with myself. I have completed 3 puzzles (one of which was an impossible Harry Potter puzzle – it was in the Brakenhale at Home edition), read a couple of books and have now started a cross stitch!
I have been on countless walks around Camberley and found several dream houses that I would love to move into! As well as this I am getting quite good on Overcooked and have just started to relive my childhood and play Spyro again.
During lockdown, I finally got Netflix and have been watching The Crown and Brooklyn Nine Nine – yes, I am aware they are completely different but enjoy them equally!
46
Farley House: Miss Willimott
I cannot forget that I have also been taking part in the Fun Friday challenges! I hope you are as well as every entry receives house points! This is the same for exit tickets and quizzes set on google classroom.
So, what are you waiting for - every house point counts! Come on Farley let’s do this!

Swinley House: Mrs RabyDear Swinley House
You are all doing such an amazing job with your home learning. Keep going with it: remember you get a house-point for each piece of work, entries into the fun friday competition and you can keep working towards the achievement milestones.
Over lockdown I have been home schooling my children, doing lots of planning and marking for school, going on walks, attempting the Joe Wickes work outs, camping in the garden, sewing for the NHS and eating lots of snacks!!!
I would love to hear what you all have been getting up to.
Hope to see you all soon, stay safe

Here, Danielle talks of fears of the night or darkness. But we mustn’t live our lives
by fear, nor should we let them constrict us or hold us back.
Instead we should face them.
Does this poem inspire you to write a poem about fears?
Here are some ideas to get you started:
• How we should face up to them?
• The feelings of conquering them?
Send entries to [email protected] and you will receive literacy points. The best entries will appear in next week’s issue ☺
Nyctophobia
It’s not the dark that scares me.
It’s the fear of not being able to see
The light again. The fear of not
Knowing when I will be free
from this void of uncertainty.
It’s not the dark that scares me.
It’s not knowing when the end is near,
It’s not knowing how far I am
From leaving behind the fear
Of this darkness that surrounds me.

Dear Diary Ms BunkellSo while looking for something to do the other week I came across Macmillan whodunnit. It's a great way to spend an evening and raise money for charity all at the same time. You can find out more and register for your own kit, for free here: https://gamesnight.macmillan.org.uk/whodunnit
You just need 8 people and a way to communicate with each other. All Macmillan ask is that you set up a just giving page to try to raise money for them during this difficult time. With just 8 people, I managed to raise £120! The murder mystery has a 1920s theme so my friends and I decided to dress up for the occasion.
Proving you can still have an amazing evening at home in lock down.
Mr Boucher is a really good teacher
for PE and Science and a very good
assistant HoY.
Making PE really enjoyable and always

Old Skool Retro Sprinkle Tray Bake IngredientsSponge Cake
✘ 300 g butter
✘ 300 g caster sugar
✘ 300 g self raising flour
✘ 5 large eggs
✘ 95 ml milk
✘ 1 tsp vanilla essence
Icing
✘ 400 g icing sugar
✘ 8 tbsp milk
✘ 50 g sprinkles
1. Preheat the oven to 160°C / 325 degrees F or Gas Mark 3.
2. Line a 30cm x 23 cm x 3.5cm square tin with greaseproof paper. Set aside.
3. For a soft and spongy cake make sure that you have left the butter at room temperature.
4. Cream the butter and sugar together until smooth. Add the eggs one by one and mix well.
5. Once all the eggs have been added, add in the flour using 2 tablespoons at a time to make sure the mixture is smooth.
6. Add in the milk and vanilla essence and mix well.
7. Pour the sponge cake mixture into the tray and bake for around 25-30 minutes.
8. Keep an eye on the cake until it turns golden brown. You can see if the cake is done by sticking a toothpick or a knife into the middle of the cake. If it comes out clean then your sponge cake is done. Leave the cake to cool in the tin for about 15 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack.
9. Once the cake has fully cooled down, make the icing by adding the milk into the icing sugar.
10.Add half of the milk first to test the consistency. I like my icing to be quite thick, once the icing is done pour it into the middle of the cake and spread carefully with a spatula. Let the icing run along the sides of the cake for effect. Then add the sprinkles!73
