FEDERAL AIDTo qualify for Federal Financial Aid you must first visit www.FAFSA.ed.gov to complete the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA). This is a fairly simple process: Many complete the FAFSA in fewer than thirty minutes. (If you would like help to complete your FAFSA make an appointment with the Pillar College Admissions Department for a trained associate to sit with you as you go through the website.)

When you complete your FAFSA you should choose Pillar College as your first school of choice so that we can automatically receive your FAFSA information. After you complete your FAFSA, the Department of Education will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR). It is important that you review that report to ensure the data and information are correct. Pillar College will help you understand your SAR, we can instruct you in how to respond to any problems or questions the government may have, and we will use your SAR to estimate your Financial Aid eligibility.

The predominant sources of Federal Student Aid are the PELL grant, and student loans from the Direct Loan program. The PELL grant can provide up to $5,800 for a single year, and does not ever need to be re-paid. Student loans are also available; the annual amount varies from a low of $5,500 for Freshmen up to $12,500 for Juniors and Seniors; the lifetime ceiling for Federal student loans for any individual is $57,500. Some portion of your student loans may be Subsidized (with no interest charged) and some may be Un-Subsidized (with interest charges), depending on your family income. All Federal student loans offer extended payment schedules, and principal payments may be delayed until after you leave school. There are also numerous loan and grant programs offered by local and state governments, private banks, and organizations like SALLIE MAE.
