BRAVEHEART THE MAKING OF A KING: SESSION FOUR SCRIPTURE: “God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’” ACTS 13:22 NIV GOAL OF SMALL GROUP: To help students identify the areas where they’ve been holding something back from God and to say yes to Him instead. To do this, create meaningful conversation. This guide is a suggestion, not a formula. Adjust the questions and activities as needed, and don’t feel like you need to do, or ask, everything you see here. Everyone wants to be remembered. Everyone wants to live a life that is, in some way, extraordinary. This is especially true for middle schoolers because, right now, they’re trying to figure out who they are, if they matter, and what their purpose in the world is. So tap into that desire today. Because the truth is, the best way for your middle schoolers to live a life of meaning and purpose is to live out God’s story for them. And the best way for them to do that is to say “yes” to what He has for them. JUST FOR FUN What’s the coolest thing that’s ever happened to you? What is one thing you want to do before you die? Do you think you’ll get a chance to do it? THINK ABOUT THIS “For the last few weeks, we’ve talked about how King David had a pretty unbelievable life. We may never get to be kings or queens, but that doesn’t mean our lives can’t be unbelievable, too. With that in mind… DISCUSSION QUESTIONS Has there ever been a time when you said “yes” to God? Tell that story. What are some ways that we can say “yes” to God (and be “after His heart”) in our everyday lives? When is it difficult or scary to say “yes” to God? What would make it easier to say “yes” to God? What are some ways someone can center their life around God? If you decided to say yes to God, what’s one thing you’d have to start doing differently? What’s one thing that’s holding you back from doing that? For this game, you’ll need a clothespin, sticker, or other random object for every kid in your group plus candy prizes. Stick a clothespin or sticker on every kid at the start of small group and tell them they’re not allowed to use the word “no” during group. If someone hears someone else say “no,” they get to steal their clothespin/sticker. The person with the most clothespins at the end of group gets candy.
