A Personal Culturally and Regionally Aligned Energy Source To The Masses
Some Pictures to Support my thoughs on “Bread”
• A Personal – It is consumed by humans• Cultural/Regional – It tends to use ingredients related
to the cultures and regionally available food sources.• Aligned – People generally want to eat foods that are
familiar to them, in shape, ingredients, and taste.• Energy Source – It is generally a starchy simple sugar
source that enables fueling the human body.• The Masses – It is cost effective, easy to make, store,
and transport.
A Personal Culturally and Regionally Aligned Energy Source For The Masses
• Flour or Starch Source – Wheat Flour, Corn Flour, Rice Flour.• Leaven – Either Yeast or Soda, or left un-leavened for matzoh.• Salt (Optional) – Simplist flavoring• Sugar (Optional) – Flavoring or Leaven Accelerant• Adjuncts (Optional) – Stuff you mix in to make it more delicious, such as

further, such as hollowing out or slicing,

Bread As Cultural Artifact:Observed Strategy Based On Diversity of Bread• Each Culture or Society has chosen elements of the process to “Fit” their
culture and region. Examples of Cultural / Regional Specialization. General Strategy to enable this: - Use Local Ingredients - Flour - Water - Leaven - Salt - Sugar - Adjuncts - What do you put inside the flour, such as nuts, ... - Use Local Energy Sources - Electricity, gas, peat fire, wood fire, dung fire, …. - Use Local Cooking Methods - Is it an oven, a tandori, a wood oven, open fire, ... - Use Traditional Shapes - Is it buns, loafs, ... - Coatings - What do you put on the bread after it is cooked? - Fillings - What do you fill the bread with after it is cooked? - Post Processing - Hollow out the bread, slice it, dry it, …
