Complementary information to the press release

In the complementary part of this press release we would like to highlight specific features and crane details related to the new line. Functional Aesthetic Industrial designers conducted an ergonomic review leading to redesign of the entire crane package, improving aspects such as the base and deck, boom and column shape, hoses covers, oil tank, and, the position of all controls and displays to suit different applications and for different heights of crane users.

Hexagonal design deck – a 3-part construction which covers electronic and hydraulic components mounted on the base, protecting them from possible damage. Tidy and lightweight and easily removed for maintenance

Covers, column and main boom – protect hoses from small impact, vibration and weathering. Easily removed for pipe inspections and maintenance

Oil tank – fitted as standard and made from sandwich of two materials: External material is PEX (Cross-linked polyethylene) to resist UV and give structural integrity to the tank. Internal material is PA6 (Ultramid polyamide) to resist oil. Tank is factory-fitted and positioned over the base and over the pump. With the tank in this position, the life of the pump is extended owing to reduced workload and absence of cavitation. Large volume for better heat evacuation. FEM and fatigue tested (vibration and temperature)

Colours – Red/Black colour combination highlighting cylinders and linkages to emphasise the power and performance of the cranes

Concept to Field Operation 3D modelling considered customer demands together with ergonomic studies conducted by industrial designers. Design calculations were developed according to European Safety Standard EN 12999. Then, within the 3D CAD software, Finite Element Method (FEM) was performed on the structure, defining the loading and boundary conditions the crane is subjected to. Later, a campaign of laboratory based “fatigue” tests (more than 600,000 fatigue cycles) was performed on cranes prototypes and on all electronic and hydraulics components to verify the adopted design solutions and improve the system where necessary. A wide range of tests was carried out on the new electronics to inspect the resistance to water and the different climatic conditions where the cranes could be used. Finally, field-based Customer Acceptance Tests (CAT) were conducted to collect opinions and feedback which may help to make modifications and improvements prior to launch.

Modular

Cranes are designed to achieve the highest level of modularity in models, features and

accessories. This makes the cranes easier to use and easier to maintain. With the same

controls, features and functions, the crane user will find it easy to operate different models

without additional training. And, with the same features, devices and accessories, maintenance

is made easier as there are fewer spare parts and less training is required.

Hydraulic System

The hydraulic circuit is designed to match the top speed of the crane. This allows shorter load

cycle times and can improve productivity

Danfoss PVG32 control valve on all radio crane versions. This is a proportional compensated control valve which allows for 3 or 4 crane operations simultaneously and improves the productivity of the crane operation. This is the top control valve on the market and allows very precise and high speed movements.

Hoses routing inside the column reduces installation space, avoids contact between pipes and moving parts (column) and minimises the torsion force on rubber hoses. This improves protection, reduces maintenance and achieves a clean, compact installation.

Valves The combination of valves make the cranes easier to use and safer as the high precision movements reduce the risk operator or load damage. And, shorter loading/unloading cycles can improve productivity

Safety valve on the main cylinder (SDV Smooth Descent Valve) and rotation valve which avoid uncontrolled movements in the event of hose burst. The main cylinder valve allows high precision movements and high speed when needed. The rotation valve is the result of cooperation between Bosch Oil Control and F.lli Ferrari R&D

Regenerative valve (EQS Extension Quick System) which facilitates higher speed crane extension and retraction (but does not impact on the extension force) and can increase productivity. Standard on all articulated crane models

Control Station and ergonomics The control station which includes crane and stabiliser controls, supports all control versions on all models. Dedicated studies on ergonomics and user preferences have created the most ergonomic working position and user-friendly interface which facilitate accurate and safe operation. The 7 inch colour, intuitive information display gives the operator a higher level of awareness of the crane operation and allows selection of the best parameters for effective use.

Ergonomic positioning of levers delivers ease of use and comfortable operation

Vertical stabiliser control levers easy to use and give driver excellent overview of operation

Crane controls in the lower position avoid stress on driver’s shoulder and arms. Displays with high contrast, good viewing angle and sunshade provide perfect visualisation of operation

Same controls, look and feel on all models and versions allow to easily switch to another crane of our new line without extra training

Main and auxiliary controls cross connected such that the levers have the same function sequence on both sides

D-line has a third control station to avoid uncomfortable operation when the crane is folded and the boom covers the secondary control station

F3XL F4XL + TOP

Hydraulic load limit device (NOT CE Market) Prevents exceeding the maximum (100%) capacity. Avoids uncontrolled movements, keeps vehicle within its planned margin of stability and avoids the risk of capsize of the truck and crane.

Stabilisers

A variety of stabiliser features and configurations are available.

Flanged stabilisers

Cylinder connected to the beam using a bolted flange which allows the height to be adjusted.

Long cylinder stroke allows a wider range of installation heights and easier stabilisation on

uneven surfaces.

Tiltable stabilisers

Flange with hinge connection. Manual or pneumatically assisted which makes operation easier

for the driver. 180°rotation makes easier installation on Euro 5 and 6 truck. Easy to retrofit.

Pivoting stabiliser feet Allows rotation of the stabiliser feet to correct for imperfections in the ground surface. Sphere attached to the stabiliser rod allows rotation of the stabiliser foot around two axes. There is less side force on the cylinder rod and, as a result, longer life of the cylinder and seals. Sphere protected from corrosion using Nikrom treatment and foot made of special patented plastic material to avoid oxidation and corrosion. Three beams outreach Larger stabiliser outreach allows an increase in the tilting axis from the middle of the truck, improving the stability coefficient. Improves the precision of the boom and reduces the risk of truck capsize. Three different beam sizes (4.2 meter, 5.4 meter and 6.6 meter) allows the crane to be installed on different truck sizes and deal with different applications Internal stabiliser pipes Pipes for double acting cylinders are installed inside the beams. This makes installation easier, protects the pipes and reduces maintenance. Overall, the structure has a cleaner, lighter and more modern appearance. The operator is fully protected from pressurised oil at high temperatures, increasing safety during operations. Manual or hydraulic extendable stabilisers Stabiliser beams are moved by hydraulic cylinder. Depending on the need, it is possible to select the crane with manual or hydraulic extendable beams. In order to reduce the effort of the user, manual extendable beams are equipped with two rollers moved by hydraulic cylinder. Radio stabiliser controls Stabiliser beams and cylinder can be moved by radio controls, allowing the operator to deploy the stabilisers from a remote position. Dynamic Load Diagram New system which allows driver to verify in advance the crane lifting capacity based on the truck stability. The operator can select the weight and, according to the stabilisers positions, the system calculates the stability all around the truck. A graphical display shows the outreach available for the load selected and the actual boom slewing position. This system, a first on truck-mounted articulated cranes, optimises stabilisation and makes crane operation safer and more efficient. Easy to use and saves time.

Easy to use and saves time by increasing the awareness and control of the operator

Improves safety through better crane stabilisation and avoiding border line working conditions

Magic Touch Graphic display which allows driver, after truck stabilisation, to automatically fold (to transport position) and unfold (to working position) when required. Can move from any working position to transport position.

Easy to start and close

Improves driver attention and safe operation, saves time and can increase productivity Slewing Angle Rack and pinion slewing system designed to achieve a wide slewing angle. Best in medium sized cranes category with 425° slewing angle. The operator is free to rotate around the entire working area. A wider slewing angle improves productivity in all applications, especially where the crane is installed at the rear of the vehicle. Hook Attachments Robust, cast hook attachment offers a high resistance to traction (with hook) and to bending and torsion (with attachments). Accessories Crane structures are designed to cope with the higher stresses which can occur with the use of attachments such as rotators, buckets, bricks attachments. A wide range of accessories are available to optimise the crane for different applications and improve productivity in combination with attachments. Working Lights LED lights located on the main boom and the second boom allow illumination of the working area around the crane and make it possible to work during night hours. A LED light is also fitted on the control station to light up the crane and stabiliser levers.
