RULES

1. Entries: All entries to be made on the entry form and sent, with

correct entry fees, to the Show Secretary to arrive no later than last

post on the Thursday prior to the Show. Late entries will not be

accepted under any circumstances. Only one entry per class

permitted. Non-members are permitted to enter OPEN classes. No

Member of the Society to be debarred from entering any of the

classes.

2. All exhibitors must sign the entry form to confirm that: all

horticultural exhibits have been grown/produced by them or have

been in their possession for at least two months prior to the Show:

and all non-horticultural exhibits are their own unaided work. The

Committee reserves the right to visit any exhibitor’s garden.

3. Staging: Exhibits must be staged on Show day from 8.00 a.m. –

10.20 a.m. Only exhibitors and Show officials are allowed in the

venue during staging time, and exhibitors are asked to leave as soon

as they have completed their staging.

4. Vegetables must be trimmed before entering the Show venue. All

vegetables, where appropriate, should be trimmed and exhibited on

plates.

5. Cut flowers should be exhibited in vases.

6. Flower Arranging: staged under NAFAS Rules, see Rule 10

overleaf.

7. Exhibitors should check that their entries comply with all the

Schedule requirements regarding numbers/types of specimens,

space allowed and so on, as deviations from schedule requirements

may lead to disqualification.

8. Judging: will commence at 10.30 a.m. and the venue will remain

closed during judging.

9. Any objections/complaints shall be presented to the Show Secretary, in writing on Show Day with a £2 deposit (only refundable if the objection/complaint is upheld). 10. All classes in the Flower Arranging section judged according to the NAFAS Competitions Manual, 3rd Edition 2015, available from www.nafas.org.uk. 11. Prizes & Trophies will be presented at 4.30 p.m. 12. ALL PRIZE MONIES TO BE COLLECTED ON SHOW DAY. 13. Any exhibitor infringing the Rules of the Society shall forfeit all claims to any awards gained by doing so. The Committee also reserves the right to withhold any awards on the judges’ recommendations. 14. Points marking in all classes will be: 1st – 5, 2nd – 3, 3rd – 1. 15. Takedown: Exhibits may not be removed from the show benches until after the presentation of the prizes. 16. Loss/damage: Although all possible care will be taken, the Society accepts no liability with respect to loss/damage of exhibitors’ property over the duration of the event.

CLASS 75 - RECIPE

BANANA & CHERRY LOAF

Ingredients:

110 g butter 150g glacé cherries

110g golden caster sugar 2 lightly beaten eggs

200g self-raising flour 40g chopped walnuts

150g mashed ripe bananas

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180o C / Gas 4.

2. Grease and line a 900g loaf tin.

3. In a mixing bowl cream together butter and sugar until light

and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well each one.

Sift in flour and add fruit and nuts. Stir well to mix. Spoon

into prepared tin and smooth top.

4. Bake in preheated oven for 40-50 minutes until a skewer

inserted in the middle comes out clean. Remove from oven

and allow to cool for 90 minutes.

CLASS 78 – RECIPE MOLLY CAKE

About this recipe This wonderfully moist and fruity cake contains no refined sugar or fat. It’s also free of eggs and dairy products, which means it’s suitable for vegans, or anyone trying to cut down a little. Ingredients 250g stoned dates, roughly chopped 300ml water 85g plain flour 85g whole wheat flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon ground mixed spice 500g mixed dried fruit, chopped (figs, sultanas, apricots etc) 50g ground almonds 80ml orange juice

Method 1. Preheat the oven to 170oC / Gas Mark 3 and line a loaf tin with

baking parchment. 2. Put the dates and water in a pan and bring to the boil. Remove

the pan from the heat and set aside. 3. Sieve the plain flour, baking powder and mixed spice into a bowl.

Add the wholemeal flour, mixed fruit and ground almonds. Stir to combine. Stir in the wet date mixture and the orange juice. Mix well.

4. Spoon into the tin. Bake for 50 minutes (170oC / Gas Mark 3) or until a skewer comes out clean. Turn out onto a wire rack and cool.

Ingredients (Makes 12 biscuits) 75g self-raising flour 75g butter 75g rolled oats / Porridge oats 1 tablespoon honey 75g caster sugar 1 tablespoon milk

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180oC / Gas Mark 4 and place parchment on baking tray.

2. Sift flour into bowl, then add oats and sugar. 3. In a saucepan melt butter, milk and honey together until a liquid. Then

add to flour mixture. Mix together. 4. Form in 12 biscuit shapes and cook for 10-15 minutes until slightly

brown. Note: Time and temperatures are given as a guide line as ovens vary. Cakes made with honey burn more easily!
