Research shows the way we breathe has an impact on both our physical and emotional wellbeing. When stressed we tend to over breathe which means we decrease the amount of Carbon Dioxide or CO2 we produce. Decreased CO2 has an effect on the levels of oxygen (O2) that can be delivered to our cells, which can impact us emotionally and physiologically. Breathing Space is a breath awareness programme that helps individuals reduce feelings of stress and anxiety through harnessing mindful breathing techniques. What does the programme involve? Breathing Space is delivered in small groups or one to one with a self- help coach. The programme is delivered for four weeks, with additional home study. Using a capnography machine (a machine that measures levels of CO2) and breath awareness techniques, the client will develop an understanding of the relationship between breathing and well-being. Who could benefit from the programme? Breathing Space can be beneficial for people experiencing: Stress and anxiety Low mood Panic attacks Fatigue. How do I refer on? Clients can either self-refer or refer through their health professional.
