Private Interment

Missing You Always

You never said I'm leaving

You never said goodbye,

You were gone before I knew it

And only God knows why.

A million times I needed you

A million times I cried,

If love alone could have saved you

You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly

In death I love you still,

In my heart I hold a place

That only you can fill.

Your loving daughter, Amber

The fourth child of Mr. Hannie D. Milling Sr. and the late Mrs. Johnnie

Mae Murphy Milling, Brenda Joyce Laverne Milling Lewis was born on

August 11, 1955 in Columbia, SC. She departed this earthly life on

Thursday, March 10, 2016. She grew up in a loving family and community

devoted to strong Christian beliefs, which was evident by her faith in the

Lord. BJ (as she was affectionately called by many) was an avid reader,

traveler and dancer. BJ enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.

Brenda Lewis matriculated through Fairfield County Public Schools and

was very studious. She entered South Carolina State University (formally

known as South Carolina State College) at the tender age of 15. During her

tenure at SCSU, she met her husband, the late Mr. Alexander "Mickey"

Carrion Lewis, Jr. From that union of love, they had one daughter, the

apple of Brenda and Mickey's eye, Ms. Amber Carmen Lewis of

Greenville, SC. BJ later continued her higher educational studies at Allen

University. During her tenure at Allen, she held the position of Residence

Hall Director of the historical Levi J. Coppin Women's Dormitory. Over

the years, Brenda held several outstanding positions in the Corporate

America arena. Such as, an Engineering Tech at one of the Premier

Global Engineering Companies, Fluor Daniel and a supervisor at Computer

Sciences Corporation (formally known as Policy Management System.)

She leaves to mourn her passing, father Hannie D. Milling, Sr., one

daughter Amber C. Lewis, brothers, Rev. Hannie D. Milling, Jr., Michael T.

(Beverly) Milling; sisters, Phyllis Milling (Eddie) Young, Shryll Milling

(Rev. David) Brown, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and

great-nephews, cousins, friends and professional associates.

Brenda Joyce was predeceased by her mother, the late Johnnie Mae Murphy

Milling.

In Your Memory

Obituary

Death is an Old Door

Death is only an old door. Set in a garden wall; on gentle

hinges it gives, at dusk when the thrushes call.

Along the lintel are green leaves, beyond the light lies still;

Very willing and weary feet go over that sill.

There is nothing to trouble any heart; nothing to hurt at all.

Death is only a quiet door in an old wall.
