The Bronzeville Neighborhood has gone through many ups and downs in its long history. After the closing of the Ida B. Wells housing projects, the community was left with a big missing piece, both physically and culturally. This design aims to renew the storied sense of community and culture in the area by incorporating mixed income housing, new reatail spaces, a new preschool, and programming for all seasons. All of which will aid in the rejuvenation of this iconic neighborhood. The new development has 42 residential buildings which vary from 3 to 5 stories high. There is an indoor recreation center for year round activity along with a combined with a seasonal ice rink/skate park. The space also boasts two retail strips complete with adequate parking.

Leek and Sons Funeral Homethe Leek and Sons Funeral Home is driven by controlling water that falls onto the site. the aim was to be able to control all of the water on the site by either getting it into the bio-retention pond located in the center of the plan, or directing it into the bioswale at the South East corner. The plantings in the pond were specifically selected because they are all native to the Midwest region and they can all deal with water on varying scales. Also, many of the plants attract native fauna like small mammals, birds, and insects and provide them with habitat. Ideally the pond will be able to take on a large amount of runoff while only discharging a very small amount.
The Parking lots were disgned so that a minimal area of the site was paved to maximize vegetation, slow runoff, and also maximize infiltration. there is also a droop off area on the West side of the front porch that is at grade with the lot so that it is easier for any elderly guests to enter the building.

The Morrow Plots are historic
experimental corn plots located on
the campus of the University of
Illinois. There is no issue with the
plots themselves, however there is an
issue with the border around them.
The old, large, box hedge surrounding
the plots is an uninviting eye sore.
The challenge was to design a border
for the plots that was inviting
but still functioned as a secure
border to keep people out of the
experimental field. The fence in the
designed is an abstracted DNA model
of corn, which is the main crop of
the Morrow Plots. The design also
incorporates bench seating on the
East and West sides of the plots.

UIUC Architecture Courtyard7
The Architecture courtyard at the University of Illinois was primarily used as a pass through space by students and fuculty alike. My goal was to make the space more useful and appealing by adding semi-private seating areas and room for food vendors. the space could provide a calming atmosphere for students wanting to use it.
UIUC Architecture Courtyard Mumford House 8
The Mumford house project was a conceptual repurposing of the Mumford house that currently exists on campus at the University of Illinois. My design re-imagined the house as a small campus cafe to be used by students and faculty. The design also incorporated small garden spaces in which patrons could sit and enjoy their beverages.
