Strong leaders……

• Getting It Right First Time:“Strong and effective leadership makes a setting good or outstanding. It

drives up the quality of a setting’s work and ensures that all children are

helped to reach their potential. It is no surprise that strong leaders share

common features”. Ofsted, July 2013, Achieving and maintaining high quality early

years provision. P6.

• Background of the setting

• Leadership

• Improvements and impact

• Challenges

• Next steps

Although attitudes and regulations have changed since the 1960’s playgroup movement, many buildings have not.

Many nurseries face the challenge of operating within restricted physical environments which need to be set up and packed away everyday.

Leadership style

How my leadership style has influenced

how I introduced ECERS to the rest of the team.

Improvements and impact

Challenges

• Funding for large scale improvements to the

physical environment.

• Finding non-contact time for staff to carry out

scoring.

• Inclusion of students/volunteers and parents

in the ECERS programme.

• The non-permanence and restrictions of a

pack away setting.

Next steps

• To keep ECERS sustained within my setting.

• To maintain a network with colleagues from the course and continue sharing good practice.

• To be an ECERS ‘champion’ using the knowledge gained throughout the course to support and empower other settings in their cycle of improvement.
