Wedding Stationery

Impressive Invitations Digital printing techniques are a fraction of the cost of engraved invitations, but avoid printing at home unless you have professional materials. Invitations are the first glimpse of your day, so they need to make a great first impression.

Fine-tune Timings Send Save-The-Date cards with six months to go, especially if you having a destination wedding. Post your invitations at least eight weeks before the wedding. Give your guests four weeks to RSVP then chase up the stragglers who haven’t responded.

Finishing Touches Choose a style or pattern and carry it through your details. How about a gift pack with a menu, CD of your favourite songs and a top trump style favour for each of your guests?

Paul Strowger of Strowger Designs

Find Your Own StyleAdd fun and personality to your wedding, says Paul, with these simple, creative ideas

Pretty Palettes Choose a maximum of two or three main colours for your palette. Remember, most flower arrangements feature green foliage so use it sparingly as one of the accents in your table linen and bridesmaid dresses. I suggest using these sites to put together mood boards: 100layercake.com/blog, stylemepretty.com, snipetandink.blogspot.com.

Spring Pastels Peach mixed with sage green, cream and antique gold, looks beautiful. Turquoise is also big this year, as it’s vibrant and fun.

Elegant Monochrome Black and white never goes out of style, and works for chic urban or formal weddings. Consider pairing it with bright green or pale pink and keep the design crisp by using elements like pin stripes or polka dots.

DIY Designs Do-it-yourself elements add a personal touch and can rein in the costs, as long as you are not over ambitious.

We’ve always known we’d get married. We’re best friends and happiest when we are together...”

Real Life Weddings

How they metThe couple met on an internet dating website called Match.com. Paul had been looking for the right girl for a long, long time and was about to give up when he found Sue’s profile. They instantly clicked and after much emailing arranged a first date at Sue’s Master’s exhibition at The Sainsbury Centre. Even with both of them being late and Paul surprisingly getting lost in the car parks, they both had a wonderful time and from that moment onwards have become inseparable!

The ProposalPaul waited and waited until their first anniversary and took Sue away for a surprise night in Windsor. His plan was to propose at Legoland at a romantic moment. Paul was so nervous and excited about proposing that he couldn’t wait, so on the stroke of midnight (14th July 2005) he asked Sue to make him the happiest man in world, Sue’s response was “Really?”, followed swiftly by “Yes”! At the time he couldn’t afford a ring so he used a Hula Hoop instead! Sue wore it all day long!

She wore Sue wore an amazing dress from Pronuptia.co.uk. The dress featured beautiful beading which she managed to incorporate into Paul’s design for the wedding!Sue also wore a stunning necklace that Paul had bought her as a gift earlier in the year.

He wore Paul wore an elegantly tailored suit with tails and a striking waistcoat from Johnfields.co.uk. The men wore red ties while Paul wore a silver one to stand out amongst them!

Page 13: BRIDAL BOUTIQUE MAGAZINE

The BridesmaidSue chose her best friend and sister Penny to be her Bridesmaid. Her dress was a stunning red from Pure.co.uk in Norwich.

The Best Man and UshersPaul chose his brother Tim to be his Best Man and his two close friends Neil Barrell and Mike Johnston to be his ushers. The Transport Sue arrived at the Assembly House in a classic Austin Healy from Style&grace.co.uk which was specially chosen in tribute to Sue’s late Granddad Ernie Skipper.

The CeremonyHeld at the Assemblyhouse.co.uk in the Music Room, a beautiful venue with a wonderful and intimate atmosphere. A string quartet played music as the guests were seated and “The Queen of Sheba” was played for Sue to walk down the aisle to. The couple had carefully chosen three readings to be spoken at breaks in the ceremony, each immaculately read out by Paul’s sister Sally, his close friend Rick Roydes and Sue’s step-dad Steve. The whole ceremony was televised on a webcam which Sally Utting kindly set up to show Paul’s parents the entire ceremony live across the seas to Australia! Whilst the register was signed and witnessed by the couple’s sisters “Run” by Snow Patrol and “Every Breath You Take” by The Police was played in the background to create a truly magical memory. After much photography the happy couple walked back down the aisle to “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves.

The MenuThe catering was provided by The Assembly House. There was a selection of dishes and three options for the main course. The guests had received a menu as part of their invitation pack, so they could select their choice before the day. All the guests appreciated the high quality food and even those with the healthier appetites were satisfied!

The CakePaul’s close friend Al Harnden and his wife Lucie created three individuals cakes, fruit, sponge and chocolate. All iced and decorated beautifully to coordinate with the colour themes of red and silver. The sponge cake was cut up and given out with the evening buffet, one guest in particular admitted to taking a plate with around six slices on it!

The FavoursSue and Paul had worked tirelessly for many weeks up until the wedding. A personalised swing tag with the guests’s photo on it acted as the place card, creating a ribbon tied parcel for each person. This contained a menu, a CD complied from guests’s favourite wedding songs and most talked (argued) about was a wedding top trump card with the guest’s chosen song rated so they could play with others on their table. Everyone loved this special touch and many months on friends and family still play their CDs and are angry about their songs poor ratings!!

The MusicPaul’s close friend from work Will Pointer was DJ and played music from a specially chosen playlist so that all guests could dance the night away each in their very ‘individual’ styles! He even managed to incorporate a few “Oh Yeahs” into the songs!

Special MomentsSue and Paul were lucky to have so many of these but two stood out for them in particular. For their first dance everyone was expecting the normal awkward swaying and shuffling of feet, but Sue and Paul had practiced a waltz which was combined with a magical lift and twirl of the bride which had all their friends and family in tears of joy! The second special moment came at the end of the night. The party kept going until the last possible minute and finished in true style with Europe’s ”Final Countdown” bringing the dance floor alive with everyone singing and air guitaring. The grand finale was Paul lifting his bride up whilst the guests clapped and cheered them both!

Susan Allwood PhotographySusan says "you may have spent many years or months imagining your perfect day from how you will feel; The anticipation of getting ready, the walk down the aisle, the moment you say I do, to the finer details; What sort of wedding will it be? A spring wedding full of fresh blooms or the warmth of a Summer wedding, maybe a crisp Autumn, or a Winter wedding with all that sparkles. Whichever it is, your wedding will be unique to you and we believe this is the way your photography should be".

"We like to get to know our couples; whether you are you openly romantic or more reserved, fun loving or looking for something a little more edgy. Whatever your personality type, we look to photograph your wedding to suit your personalities, and not how a photographer would like your day represented".

Darrell Kennett Photography

Darrell has always loved taking photos “Whether I’m photographing a landscape or a wedding it is all the same to me – a great picture can be made of almost anything."

Darrell is a relaxed person, something he believes is important to be able to cope with anything that happens at a wedding or portrait shoot - while working quickly and efficiently. He finds a good sense of humour helps too!

If you were to ask Darrell to describe his style, he would say he tries to avoid ‘cheesy’ photographs! “My influences in photography come from the great photojournalists and travel photographers. I want to excite people with my pictures in the same way those great photographers excite me. I like spontaneity in picture taking which really suits a fast moving event such as a wedding".

City PhotographyCity Photography is a family run business. Nicholas, Carol and daughter, Eilidh, who is still a little too young to hold a camera, have over five years experience in the wedding and portrait industry, both Nicholas and Carol are qualified members of the Master Photographers Association (the only photography body for full-time professionals). Numerous awards have been won over the years - and in 2008 & 2009, have reached the final eight in the photographer category in the prestigious VOWS Awards (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier) based on customer service.
