‘film poster analysis’

Page 2: Bride wars film poster analysis

This is the film poster that has been designed for this film. The colour scheme of this poster is very pale and neural colours and by doing this is fits in with the narrative of the film. Because the film is all based around weddings , having pale colours in the poster shows us that it is going to be a romantic film however this isn’t really the main focus of the film. This poster doesn’t really enable us to think about what genre it could be however we are able to work out that it could be a mix of genres, judging by the stance of the characters and the facial expressions we think that it could be comedy, however because of the clothing that they are in we think that it could also be a romance, but when watching the actual film we are able to see that it is a mixture so the poster gives us a rough idea. The look of the this poster enables us to see all of the important aspects of the film , with the image covering the majority of the poster it shows us what the film is going to be about and what the characters look like, there is no text on this poster that gives us an insight as to what is to happen however the props allow us to see that there is going to be a twist.

At the top of the poster this is the first bit of text that we see, this text show sus the names of the main characters in the film, because these names are of famous people in means that they are going to get more viewers as there fans will also be wanting to see the film. When looking at the film poster we aren’t immediately drawn to the names of the characters as the reason for this is that the producers don’t want our attention to be distracted away from the image and the film name. I would say that the style of the text gives it away that it is going to be a film of romance just judging by the font as it is joint up cursive writing which is the style that is used in the marriage books usually.

On the film poster at the bottom we are able to vaguely see the information of the film directors and the producers. This is something which by law must be included in the poster. This information work in relation to each of the media texts that are based around this film as without these people the film and every other thing wouldn’t have even been created. I would say that they have taken all of the credit away from these people as the colour that they have put the text in is very similar to the background colour and it is placed at the bottom and many people don’t ten to look at the bottom as for some people it isn’t of interest to them.

Judging by the stance of these characters it shows us that there is going to have been some on going battle, because they both have their hands on their hips it indicates that they have an attitude,

The two characters both are wearing wedding dresses however because this one is wearing a one that it is off white to some people it could mean that she is older or more mature, the style of dress is more fitted for an older person so this could be a reason for it being less revealing.

The dress that this character is wearing is white and more revealing which could represent that she is more confident. I think that this dress is brighter and the fact that she is placed on the left in this shot is because when we as the audience look at anything we are immediately drawn to the left hand side.

In this shot we see that they both have props in their hand, this prop symbolizes something that goes on after the wedding ceremony takes part so this shows us that the wedding goes ahead but there could be a twist afterwards as they look like they are at war with each other.

When looking at this shot it looks as if the producers have made it so that it looks like none of the characters have ownership and dominance as the shot looks like the characters have their own room which is why the image is symmetrical. Also both characters are the same height this also shows that the shot has been very carefully planned out and it has been designed to show authority at weddings.

The selection of this shot will have been one in a few that they could have used, however I think that this shot is a one that suits the overall narrative of the film as it doesn’t give too much away. This shot will have been cropped as we are only able to see from just below the waist to above their heads, but also the edge of the photo is just of the arms so this shows that they will have cropped parts out that weren't needed. This image shows an example of closed framing as we are unable to see anything other than the characters.

This is the name of the film, I think that they will have chosen the name of the film first then worked around the idea of what should happen in it although it is pretty much self explanatory.

The font and the size of this text shows us the importance of the text, it is obvious to say that the name of the film should also be bold and highlighted and this is something that the producers would have wanted to do as this is the way that they are going to know what the film is called.

The position of where about the name of the film is in the actual poster is suitable as the image is something that looks as if it has priority but then just in between the characters is the name of the film, this means that there will be no way that they don’t know the name of the film as it has been emphasised due to the colours, font and size.
