The existing bridge “Pont Adolphe” in the center of

the city of Luxemburg needs to be closed for traffic

because of major repair works. To ensure that traffic

encounters least possible disruption of the closure, a

temporary bridge is built, so there still remains a

traffic corridor over the valley.

On both sides an abutment was built with EnkaGrid

PRO to relieve the forces on the piles on which the

bridge deck rests.

The abutments of this bridge are positioned on the slopes

of the valley. The heavy steel beams of the deck will rest

on an abutment on each side of the valley. This abutment

consists of pillars, cantilever wall and reinforced earth. The

bridge deck will rest on the pillars. The horizontal forced of

the back soil are removed by resealing the soil by means

of reinforced earth such that the pillars stand on their own.
