Rationale: After researching with 76 project managers, just like you, from acrossEurope, one resounding driver was reiterated to me over and over again– what can I do to get my project completed on time and on budget? This still reigns as the primary motivation for most project managerswho want to fulfil their client expectations and build upon theirreputation.

Each individual project will throw up unique challenges on constructingamongst difficult terrain to building structures on varied soils andunpredictable geotechnical conditions. The only weapon to fightagainst these myriad of challenges are to learn the lessons experiencedby other project managers.

This tailored workshop will draw upon the lessons learnt during thedelivery of other major projects. The session will be led by StefanHerschler from Bilfinger Berger. He will focus upon the enormoussuccess of the Golden Ears Bridge in Vancouver, awarded, ‘Deal of theYear’ by the Infrastructure Journal UK. He will be joined by Ionnis S.Koutras, project manager for the Egnatia Odos motorway developmentand Philip Brown, project manager of the Samuel Beckett Bridge inDublin. All of them will share their project delivery tips and techniques, addressing issues such as:

Agenda:• Producing and preassembling bridge components off site to minimise

disturbance to commercial and recreational users• Devising new launching systems to overcome difficulties with terrain• Close cooperation with local communities and organizations as the

key to the successful completion of the Project• Building relationships with local contractors and maximising the

knowledge and skills of local partners• Overcoming geotechnical problems including; deep cuts and high
