BRIDGEPREP MONTHLY BULLETIN November/Noviembre 2017 http://batampa.bridgeprepacademy.com Welcome BridgePrep Families! Welcome to Spanish ¡Bienvenidos! ¡ Hola! Last month students learned about Hispanic countries cultures as we celebrate the National Hispanic heritage month. ¡Gracias! to all the parents that supported our activity. We appreciate that. Students had a lot of fun rehearsing for the performance. During this month we have been introducing grammar in all our classes. Students are expected to participate in listening and speaking roles as they work in individual, small groups, and whole group’s settings. In the classroom, students are invited to engage in role-play situations, communication games, songs, rhymes and listening/recognition activities. Our students, parents, community, and staff have been a sheer blessing to us at BridgePrep South Tampa. We hope that our learning environment, as well as daily morning Harmony Meetings, will help children develop the habits of thinking and empathizing with courtesy, tolerance, respect, and a sense of justice. We choose to celebrate our diverse cultures and desire to teach each child the value of education. Partnering with our parents, guardians, and family members is what enhances our ability to be aware of our children's needs for a successful achievements school year. Therefore, I want to send out a huge Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make our fabulous Fall Festival a reality. It’s such an inspiration to see how we can pull together to create something great for our children. This brings me so much hope for our Bridgeprep family. (2nd Graders hard at work Thinking Critically about Text) (Welcome to Second GradeThis month, we are looking at different types of texts more critically. Students have been making predictions, analyzing words, and using context clues to determine the important events in the story. Theyve done a wonderful job so far and Im excited for this second quarter to continue!) (Ist Grade getting ready for the Book-O-Ween Parade) (Welcome to KindergartenKindergarten is looking forward to Great American Teach-In! We are learning about being Thankful and naming things we are thankful for. As it is getting cooler, please remember to write your childs name in their jackets.) (Welcome to First GradeThank you to everyone who bought "Good Morning, Gorillas" by Mary Pope Osborne for our Novel Study unit in November. We are going to have such a great month reading this fictional text together in class while answering text dependent questions from the novel study program. It will take all of November and the beginning of December to complete our Novel Study. During November we will be finishing up learning about long vowel words, our introduction on vowel teams, and going into short vowel word families. I hope everyone has a wonderful Fall Break with your family and friends.During the month of November in Math we will be working on addition strategies doubles and doubles plus and minus 1. We will also practice more on making a ten to subtract. In science we are learning about objects in the sky.1st Grade will also be going on a Field Trip to the Aquarium on Dec. 6th, so let's get those forms completed and turned in so that everyone can go and have a great time.) ( Welcome to Fifth Grade In 5th grade, we finished a thematic unit where we conducted science investigations about forces and motion and read articles about the mechanics of rollercoasters. We would like to congratulate the winners of our 5th grade marble coaster competition, Christian and Heman, who will represent our school at the Science Olympics on October 28th. This week, we will be finishing up our novel study on the popular book The BFG. In math, we are learning about customary and metric units of measurement and practicing conversion between units. In social studies, we are getting prepared for our field trip to JA Biztown, by applying for jobs at the facility and learning about the US economy.) (Welcome to Middle SchoolIn the middle school social studies classroom, our bears learnedabout the cultural diversity that makes our Americanpopulation unique and the duties, responsibilities, and rights we all have asAmerican citizens. The6th gradershave explored the way other social sciences like geography, economics, and civics relate with the discipline of history. Last but not least, our senior historians have inquired about the Age of Exploration and drawn conclusions about theconquest of the American continent and its native population.In 6th grade we are currently covering the Cartesian coordinate plane, its properties, and plotting coordinate points. We will also be covering ratios and tables. In 7th grade we are begin to shift our focus to conversions within systems, conversions between systems, proportional relationships and their graphs. In 8th grade we are focusing on solving systems of equations by graphing, elimination, and substitution. We will soon look at systems of inequalities and graphing their solutions by shading the appropriate regions. In robotics we have begun constructing a gyroscopic robot in small groups and once completed we will be coding the robots to perform specific tasks.Middle School ELA will be continuing with persuasive writing and the 5 paragraph essay. We are also studying essential vocabulary and spelling units. Students should be working on spelling homework Monday-Thursday. We will have a short quiz every Friday.) ( ) (Welcome to Third Grade During the month of November our 3rd graders will wrap their first biography using their Who was Frida Kahlo? novel. They'll create a graphic biographical report which will highlight skills such as; Cause and Effect, Main Idea and Details, Visualization, Vocabulary Knowledge and create a timeline. Soon after, they will transition to government, where our students will learn about the various branches in the United States government as well as the role of our president. During the month of November our kiddos will also participate in an Anti-Bullying assembly. Theyll watch Kids on the Block puppeteers present the three types of bullying and learn what to do if theyre a victim or a witness to bullying. Thus, we chose our Field Trip location to be theTampa Bay History Center. We will be taking the trip right before the Thanksgivingbreak.
