Foreword
In response to letter no. 1/7/DIP/2015/MSME-DI dated 20/05/2016 of O/o
DC (MSME), M/o MSME, Govt. of India. The District Industrial Profile of
Burhanpur for the year 2015-16 has been updated upto 31/03/2016 by this
office. This profile contained Geography, Topography, Mineral availability,
forest resources, District general information, Industrial scenario &
potentiality of MSME of the district.
Burhanpur is best known for textile industries. It is the largest hub for Power
Loom industry in the state. Also, having one NTC (National Textile
Corporation) project 'Tapti Mills' and 30-35 textile companies like "Kamal
Textiles" "Paras Process" "Annapurna Calandering Works" "Neel Kamal
Processors" "Shivam Textiles" & "Ambey Process" and many more, are best
known for interlining cloth, Grey Marking, Bleached Dhoti,Cambric,Power
loom Cloth bakram and other types of fabric . 'Texmpo Pipes' is the NSE
noted industry; Balaji industry both manufactures pipes and agriculture
equipments. Several cotton and oil mills are also there.
While preparing the profile,the data was collected from various departments
of Madhya Pradesh Government and from internet. I take this opportunity
to appreciate the efforts of Shri K.R.Alawa, Asstt. Director (PI), Shri
Madhukar Sharma, Asstt. Director (EI) in bringing out this industrial profile
of Burhanpur for the year 2015-16.

Brief Industrial Profile of BurahnpurDistrict
1. General Characteristics of the District
Burhanpur is a mid-size city in Madhya Pradesh state. It is the administrative seat of Burhanpur
District. It is situated on the north bank of the Tapti River, 340 kilo meters southwest of Bhopal
and 540 kilometers northeast of Mumbai. The town is named after sufi saint Burhanuddin
Gharib of Khuldabad. The city has a Municipal Corporation, and also is one of the district
headquarters of the state of Madhya Pradesh.
1.1 Location & Geographical Area.
Burhanpur is situated in the southwestern border of Madhya Pradesh near the banks of Tapti
river. The Tapti River flows through the district from east to west. The district is divided from
Khandwa District on the north by the Satpura Range, which is also the divide between
the Narmada River valley and the valley of the Tapti. The pass through the Satpuras that
connects Burhanpur and Khandwa is one of the main routes connecting northern and southern
India, and the Asirgarh fortress, which commands the pass, is known as the "Key to the Deccan".
1.2 Topography
Burhanpur is best known for textile industries. It is the largest hub for Power Loom industry in

1.4 FOREST: forest covered 195321 Hectares.
1.5 Administrative set up. The district is divided into two development blocks, Burhanpur and Khaknar, and
three tehsils, Nepanagar, Burhanpur, and Khaknar. Burhanpur District is part of Indore Division.
One more major town near Burhanpur is Shahpur. Shahpur is just 10 km away from Burhanpur
and the most developed town in Burhanpur district.
The Burhanpur city is surrounded by gates and that is the beauty of this city. the whole city looks
like a fort administered by someone. For visitors the tour to Burhanpur is not so short.
