Brief Industrial Profile of Durg District
1. General Characteristics of the District
Durg district is one of the densely populated district of Chhattisgarh. It is
situated on the Howrah-Mumbai main line of South-Eastern Railway.
National Highway No.6 also passes through the district.
1.1 Location & Geographical Area.
Durg district lies between 20’54 and 21’32 North latitude, and 81’10 and
81’36 East Longitude. The district is bounded by Rajnandgaon district in
the west and Raipur district in the East.
1.2 Topography
Durg district is situated in the Southern part of the rich Chhattisgarh
plain. It is 317 meters above mean sea level. Sheonath is main river of
district Durg.
1.3 Availability of Minerals.
Durg district has high quality rich deposits of limestone, which is utilized
mainly by ACC for cement production and Bhilai Steel Plant for steel
production.
