Brief Profile
Harjeet Kaur Bhatia, the former Head of the Department, is currently
a Professor at the Department of Educational Studies at Jamia Millia
Islamia (A Central University). She began her journey in the field of
education as a school teacher and, since then, has been a persistent and
resilient educator who has spent an inordinate amount of time in
shaping and transforming the minds and lives of young educators. She
has been in this professional vocation for more than twenty-five years now. She has a keen
bend of mind for action research with the purpose of implementing innovative ideas to
enhance teaching learning experiences. Her refined skill and in-depth knowledge of
information technology in education has led to synchronous, asynchronous, blended learning
and online learning environments to enhance learning programs. She is a thorough believer of
continuous and evaluative learning, where she aims at bringing about an innovative,
interactive and integrated transactional engagement. The concepts of active learning and
collaboration are central to her philosophy of education. She believes that learner-oriented
teaching promotes learning that is both purposeful and enduring.
Her area of interest is Educational Technology and Philosophy of Education. She has a
mammoth of publications and has presented papers, delivered keynote addresses and chaired
sessions at various national and international seminars and conferences of repute. She has
served as a reviewer and is on the editorial board of various journals in the field of education.
Her current research interests include Blended Learning, Social Construction of Technology,
Peer Collaboration, Inquiry based, reflective and collaborative learning. She has been
instrumental in designing and creating e-groups for various academic programmes to tap the
potential of social networking in the field of education. She has researched, evaluated, and
disseminated technology resources, and has been associated with international organizations,
such as SIIA, Washington and Sciknow, USA as a judge and reviewer.
She was Deputy Co-ordinator of DRS- SAP major project of UGC granted to Department of
Educational Studies from 2007-12. She has also been conferred the ‘Bharat Gaurav Award’
in the year 2014 by the IIFS.
