Series Prot/llction Sports ttlrs • • •One of the most interesting parts of the motor sport scene
today is certainly the 'Series Production' Class which not onlyserves as a yardstick for us all to judge the speeds of the racingcars, but allows us the thnll of recognising cars identical to thosewe-own or could hope to own in the forseeable future.
To qualify for the title 'Series Production' the organisersattempt to provide a set of qualifications which in everydaylanguage mean that the car is produced in the normal way ofbusiness for road users who are enabled to drive on the publichighway without undue discomfort to themselves or theirpassengers and without inconveniencing other road users.Samples of most of the vehicles you will see hereperforming under this heading can be seen on the open roadsperforming the ordinary duties of a dual purpose sports car, theywere made originally with normal watertight hoods, sidescreens, heaters, etc., but are used in the season for competitive sport aswen.
The Ace Bristol two litre, undoubtedly one of the most potentroad cars of the day, is made in small quantities to the ideas of aracing chassis designer and built by one of the oldest firms in thebusiness who have been famous for over 50 years for their qualitycars. Its docility in traffic, its relative silence even when drivenfast and its fascinating ability to cover the ground on the crowdedwads of England at very high average speeds, wet or dry, haveendeared it in the hearts of hard driving motorists of all ages.
The example driven here by K. N. Rudd has covered morethan 50,000 miles in the last three years and completed over 50race, sprint and hill climb meetings throughout the country andwill be remembered as the car in which Ken scored anoverwhelming number of points in the Autosport ProductionSports Car Championship last year. It is interesting to note thathis racing friend Bob Jennings has partnered him this season inkeeping the Ace at the top of the Championship and the car ismaintained by K. N. Rudd (Engnrs.) Ltd., 41 High St., Worthing, who are interested in supplying and maintaining high grade sportscars of all types.
