U.S. - PAKISTAN PARTNERSHIP FOR AGRICULTURAL MARKET DEVELOPMENT
NOTE: (Before filling the form, please read and understand documents carefully)
IntroductionThe U.S.-Pakistan Partnership for Agricultural Market Development (AMD) is a USAID funded, four year project which aims to improve the ability of Pakistan’s commercial agriculture and livestock sectors to compete in international and national markets in the four target product lines; meat, high value and off season vegetables, mangoes and citrus. AMD will act as a catalyst for development and investment in target product lines by actively promoting cooperation and coordination amongst the value chain actors and ancillary service providers. AMD’s implementation strategy is underpinned by a strictly commercial and market driven approach with a clear focus on strengthening market access for its partner organizations, and support marketing and sales efforts, both nationally and internationally. The objective of the AMD project is to encourage investments in the four target product lines through matching grants and empower stakeholders by developing synergies among them to accomplish together what they cannot do alone. AMD will support upgrading, streamline supply chains, optimize profit margins, increase participation of women entrepreneurs, and ultimately help make Pakistani meat, high value and off season vegetables, mangoes and citrus more profitable and more competitive.
BackgroundIn order to enhance sales and promote exports of target product lines, AMD will focus on facilitating agribusinesses for participation in leading trade fairs and exhibitions across the world. These events have the potential to be one of the most effective platforms for marketing and promotion for businesses and provide an ideal opportunity to network with various buyers, sellers and other players from the allied industry, resulting in the development of lasting business relationships and sustainable exports through adequate buyer follow-up.
The U.A.E is one of the biggest market for Pakistani products particularly meat, HV/OSV, Kinnow and mangoes. Therefore, gaining exposure to this market will be highly beneficial for any agribusinesses. The Gulfood expo, in recent years, has emerged as a leading international event for the agriculture produce industry. The event is held annually in Dubai and attracted more than 4800 exhibitors and 85000 trade visitors from more than 170 countries in its last addition. The trade fair is viewed as the ideal venue to establish and build personal trust and strategic business partnerships, a prerequisite when dealing successfully in perishable products such as fresh fruit, vegetables and meat.
The ProgramThrough this EOI, AMD is seeking to select up to nine (9) women entrepreneurs related to the Meat and High Value and Off-Season Vegetables product lines (Green Chilies, Bitter Gourd, Squashes, Okra, Cucumber, Leafy Vegetables, Spring Onions, Broccoli, Green Peas, French Beans, Luffa, Tomatoes, Carrots, Colocasia, Bitter Criss).
AMD will also bear all costs of the women entrepreneurs including: visa fees, cost of airfare, lodging, meals and incidentals expenses and local transport. The selected women entrepreneurs will be responsible for providing AMD with all the required information as per deadlines established, failure to do which will result in disqualification.

The AMD Project will be attending Gulfood 2018 along with its facilitated exporters. This exposure visits to the U.A.E will dovetail with Gulfood 2018 and will consist of an exposure visit to the expo as well as other visits. The 4-day exposure and training program will be for relevant women business owners/employees from organizations that are involved in the agricultural sector which includes the following itinerary:

Day 3 Feb 19th Visit to selected Wholesale and Supermarkets.Daily review by BSP and attend AMD sponsored dinner

During this exposure visit, AMD will enable women entrepreneurs and/or managers to gain a better understanding of the quality requirements for agricultural products in international markets. In addition to providing a valuable networking event through Gulfoods 2018, we will arrange visits to local wholesale markets and large retail supermarkets such as Carrefour and Spinneys for participants to gain a better understanding of the variation of prices in different markets and export level quality of agricultural products in terms of content and packaging that is demanded by international buyers. If possible, AMD will arrange meetings with importers based in Dubai who can provide detailed guidelines for participants on more specific demand requirements in terms of freshness of produce, efficient preservation techniques, and other guidelines that will help participants gain a clear understanding of how they can improve the quality of products to maximize sales in international markets and simultaneously improve sales within their domestic markets by producing agricultural produce of international quality standards.
Expected OutcomesParticipation in the exposure visit will provide a valuable learning opportunity for Pakistani women participants and will also facilitate the establishment of new market links through B2B networking. It will also allow them to gain a better understanding of the variation of prices in different markets and export level quality of agricultural products in terms of content and packaging that is demanded by international buyers. The event will also serve as an exposure visit and training platform for selected women entrepreneurs to encourage greater representation of Pakistani women owned businesses in global market forums such as Gulfood.
