Iona College is an independent Catholic boys school, owned and administered by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.Fr Tim Long O.M.I. and Fr Denis McCarthy O.M.I. arrived at the 32 acre Lindum property on 1 October 1957, and the College opened its doors on Tuesday 28 January 1958 with an enrolment of 58 students. The name “Iona” was chosen in recognition of the Isle of Iona off the west coast of Scotland.Iona is located in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Lindum and caters for over 1,700 students from Years 5 to 12 inclusive.

Iona participated in the Confraternity Carnival in 1980, 1981, 2017, 2018 and now in 2019.

Our best result was winning the Plate Division in 2018.

Our participation in the Confraternity Carnival has become a means to connect with other Rugby League schools and bind with the communities they represent.

In 2020, Iona is privileged to be hosting the Queensland Confraternity Carnival, and bringing the largest school in the Bayside back into rugby league and encouraging the Carnival’s growth.

Ryan Leadbetter - Iona Confraternity Representative 2016 and 2017Having the opportunity to represent the College

at the Confraternity Carnival, on our return in 2016, was one of the best experiences of my life.

The competition was the best I have ever been part of. Having the opportunity to play schools from throughout the state and see so many famous Rugby League faces during the carnival, was a great thrill. Confraternity is an experience like no other.

Harrison Graham - Iona Confraternity Representative 2018Ethan Malt –

Iona Confraternity Representative 2017 and 2018.Harrison: I was incredibly proud to lead the Iona College team at the Charters Towers Carnival. The boys played some great footy against really strong opposition and to win the Plate final was an awesome achievement for us, the College and our Coaches.Ethan: The boys really dug deep to achieve our objectives at both the Padua and Columba carnivals and our improvement over my two

years was fantastic. We wish the Iona boys all the very best in this year’s 2019 carnival and especially 2020 when Iona will host its first Confraternity Carnival. We can’t wait to come and support the team.

Charlie Kwok-Sun Barker - Iona Confraternity Representative 2018 and 2019Confraternity 2018

was a great experience for me as a Year 10 student. I was accepted into the team by the older boys and made to feel really welcome from the start. Travelling away with the team gave me a real sense of belonging.I can’t wait for this year’s carnival at Shalom and hope to be in the team as a Senior in 2020 when Iona will host the Confraternity Carnival.

Anthony Pepe – Iona Confraternity Representative 2018 and 2019I totally enjoyed my first year of

Confraternity in 2018, as I got to play with some great footy players from my school, and against teams from all over Queensland. As Carnival hosts in 2020, it will be a big year for Iona. As a senior, I will hopefully also be a representative player in Iona’s Rugby League team.
