A couple of us excitable young fellas have just returned from a successful storm-watering expedition starting at pier nine in the city, and coming out right in front of King George Square. It was great fun!! Whilst we were down there we came across a couple of names of previous fellow adventurers. Namely "Rusco's Cave Clan". Finding this started the old brain ticking so we thought we might search the net for information on the who, how, when, and where of storm-water drains in Brisbane. Could you supply us with any helpful information on this excellent pastime? From > Its been several years since I was in Brissie drains, and I cant remember> the Clan names for these drains ... they were never actually listed anywhere> though passing references were made to them in the early 1994 editions of> the Clan Magazine, Il Draino (for which I am the unfortunate archivist).> 1) Walk from Roma Street station's CBD end, down the escalators, and make a > beeline for the Brisbane River. You'll meet a bike track. Search along it > until you find a memorial bust of some city founder whose name escapes me.> Directly below it is a nice drain with Macadamia nuts up the far end of it.> I suspect if you climb up you'll can find an exit grille.> 2) Go to Kangaroo Point, near the rock climbing cliffs. Check along the > river's edge near the dunnies and kiddie swings for a stainless steel cable > fence... around the outlet to Burford's Batcave. Get in the drain! When you> get to the main split (steps on left, no steps on right as you face U/S)> take the right branch, and follow to the exit behind the rail tracks.> 3) Corner of Beaudesert and Ipswich roads has a set of four stacked pairs> of outlets, behind which is probably a BIG drain. Apart from the Peir Nine > drain, which you already mentioned, that's all I remember.
