A British Airways Board was established by the United Kingdom government in 1972 to manage the two

nationalised airline corporations, British Overseas Airways Corporationand British European Airways,

and two smaller, regional airlines, Cambrian Airways, from Cardiff, and Northeast Airlines,

from Newcastle upon Tyne. On 31 March 1974, all four companies were merged to form British Airways.After almost 13 years as a state company, British Airways was privatised in February 1987 as part of a

wider privatisation plan by the Conservative Government. The carrier soon expanded with the acquisition

ofBritish Caledonianin 1987,Dan-Airin 1992 and British Midland International in 2012.

British Airways is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, along withAmerican

Airlines,Cathay Pacific,Qantas, and the now defunctCanadian Airlines. The alliance has since grown to

become the third-largest, afterSkyTeamand Star Alliance. British Airways merged with Iberia on 21

January 2011, formally creating the International Airlines Group (IAG), the world's third-largest airline

group in terms of annual revenue and the second-largest in Europe. IAG is listed on the London Stock

Exchangeand in the FTSE 100 Index.

A long-timeBoeingcustomer, British Airways ordered 59Airbus A320 family aircraft in August 1998. In2007, it purchased 12Airbus A380sand 24Boeing 787 Dreamliners, marking the start of itslong-

haul fleet replacement. The centrepiece of the airline's long-haul fleet is the Boeing 747-400; with 55

examples in the fleet, British Airways is the largest operator of this type in the world.

British Airways World CargoBritish Airways World Cargo is the world's fifth largest international cargo airline, a core British

Airways business, and a profit centre in its own right. A worldwide operation with UK stations at

Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow airports, carrying almost a million tonnes of freight, mail and

Our cargo terminal at Heathrow, Ascentis, is one of the largest and most advanced automated

freight handling systems in the world. The size of six football pitches, with elevated transfer vehicles

and a bar-coding system instantly tracking a piece of freight at any point on its journey. Ascentis is

also linked to our cargo business centre Carrus.

A cargo operation at Gatwick and a perishables centre at Heathrow support Ascentis and Carrus.

Heathrow also has a Special Handling Centre managing time critical services for our couriers and

express delivery customers.

As a leading member of the industry body Cargo 2000, we have established electronic trading

processes, however our focus on people remains. We continue to remain dedicated to delivering

thoughtful service to freight customers around the world through a developed portfolio of products

tailored to meet the individual customers needs.

Our flying know-how is supported by all the specialist functions you'd expect in a multi-million pound

global organisation - from marketing, finance to IT and business planning. Whilst many of our Team

Leaders, Shift Managers and Business Managers are recruited from within, there are also fantastic
