Section A: Producers and AudiencesFor section A of this unit, candidates will study the UK and US film industry, the audiences for films produced by these industries and their interrelationship.
The British film industry - specifically the contemporary industry, including issues of independence, distinctiveness and profitability.
Aspects of finance, organisation, production, distribution (including marketing) and exhibition will be studied, particularly through case studies.
Film demand and supply, specifically in the UK today
UK film producers and the institutional frameworks within which they operate (for example in relation to support from the UK Film Council and through co-production deals).

How many ‘British’ films can you list?

What makes a film British?
British Council defines British film

UK to audiences around the world through the British Council's global network. We are working in over 70 countries, leading or supporting a range of projects including festivals, showcases, workshops, conferences and skills development. We work extensively with artists and cultural organisations, building skills, capacity and cultural awareness, creating access to audiences and markets, and promoting international collaboration and creative exchange.
The British Council defines a British film as one which has a minimum of three of the following six criteria:
• 1. A British producer• 2. A British production team• 3. A British director e.g. Brit films• 4. A predominantly British cast
e.g. Four Wed• 5. A subject matter that informs the British
experience e.g. East is East• 6. A British identity as defined by the bfi in
the release review in Sight & Sound.
