FOREWORD
This test report details a fire resistance test conducted on a shaftwall partition system. The testsponsor was British Gypsum Limited.
The test specimen was installed by British Gypsum. The construction of the specimen took placeon the 13th September 2002. British Gypsum Limited designed and selected the materialscomprising the test specimen.
The test date was the 19th September 2002.
This report details the method of construction, the test conditions and the results obtainedwhen the specific element of construction described herein was tested following theprocedures outlined in EN 1363-1, and where appropriate EN 1363-2. Any significant deviationwith respect to size, constructional details, loads, stresses, edge or end conditions other thanthose allowed under the field of direct application in EN 1364-1 is not covered by this report.
Because of the nature of fire resistance testing and the consequent difficulty in quantifying theuncertainty of measurement of fire resistance, it is not possible to provide a stated degree ofaccuracy of the result.
REPORT AUTHORISATION

TEST CONSTRUCTION
The specimen was constructed in a refractory concrete lined steel restraint frame having anopening of 5000mm high x 3000mm wide.
A continuous Glasroc FS FireStrip was applied to the centreline of a Gypframe 62mm Shaftwall Jchannel (62JC70). The channel was then fixed to the head of the restraint frame aperture using60mm Hilti Hus fixings at 300mm centres (long flange to exposed face).
Gypframe 62mm Shaftwall floor channel (62C50) was fixed to the base of the restraint frameaperture using 60mm Hilti-Hus fixings at 600mm centres.
Gypframe 60mm Shaftwall starter channel (60SC55) was fixed to the left hand side of therestraint frame aperture (viewed from the unexposed face) using Hilti-Hus fixings at 600mmcentres. The starter channel was cut short by 15mm to accommodate the designed deflection.
A 60mm Gypframe 60I70 stud (cut short by 15mm) was positioned between the head and basechannels adjacent to the right hand side of the restraint frame aperture (viewed from theunexposed face) but not fixed. A 50mm Rockwool Firebatt gasket was inserted between thechannel and the restraint frame. The stud was ‘tabbed’ to gain a height of 5m i.e. the flanges ofan ‘I’ stud were trimmed leaving a 200mm flat web extension which was then fixed to anadjoining ‘I’ stud with 4 Gypframe wafer head screws. The ‘Tab’ was positioned 3600mm fromthe base of the stud.
60mm Gypframe 60I70 studs (cut short by 15mm) were positioned between the head and basechannels at 600mm centres. The studs were ‘tabbed’ to gain height of 5m. ‘Tabs’ werepositioned 3600mm from the base of the studs.
One layer of 19mm Gyproc CoreBoard (also cut 15mm short at the head) was inserted intospaces between the studs. The Core board was secured in position with Gypframe G102retaining channel inserted into the spaces between the board and the stud flanges. HorizontalCoreBoard joints were 1500mm and 4500mm from the base.
Two 122mm Gyproc CoreBoard fire stops, comprising two layers of 19mm Gyproc CoreBoard600mm wide, were pushed fully up into the web of the head channel and fixed using two32mm Gyproc Drywall screws for each 600mm wide pair through the head channel flange.
122mm fire stops were fixed to Gypframe GA3 angle sections (inserted into the horizontal boardjoints) using three 32mm Gyproc Drywall screws per fire stop, plus beads of sealant top andbottom.

Gyproc Sealant was applied in the angle formed by the restraint frame and the head channel onthe unexposed face.
An inner layer of 12.5mm Gyproc Fireline was fixed to the unexposed face to all framingmembers (except the head channel) at 300mm centres using 25mm Gyproc Drywall screws(horizontal joint was positioned 2000mm from the base).
An outer layer of 12.5mm Gyproc Fireline was fixed to the unexposed face to all framingmembers (except the head channel) at 300mm centres using 36mm Gyproc Drywall screws(horizontal joint was positioned 3000mm from the base). Gypframe GFS1 Fixing strap was usedto back the outer layer horizontal joint.
The outer layer board joints were finished with Gyproc joint tape and Gyproc joint filler. Allscrew heads were spotted with Gyproc joint filler.

TEST PROCEDURE
The test was conducted fully in accordance with BS EN 1364-1:1999. The specimen wassubjected to fire from one side, as specified in BS EN 1364-1:1999. The test specimen was notsymmetrical and should therefore be tested in both orientations. No performance can beclaimed for the partition system if installed with the corridor side exposed to the furnace, without a separate test being undertaken to substantiate this orientation.
The test procedure used was EN 1364-1 Issue 1.
The ambient temperature at the commencement of the test was 17oC.
The furnace pressure head was located at a height of 3 metres and the pressure wasmaintained at 1 ± 2 Pa positive with respect to the atmosphere, except during the first 5minutes of the test and at 20 minutes.
The test conditions did not meet the full requirements of BS EN 1363-1:1999 as the furnacelinings and test frame stiffness did not fully comply. The test centre is of the opinion thatthese deviations from the documented method will not unduly effect the result of the test.
TEST RESULTS
The requirements of the standard were satisfied for the following periods:
Integrity:
Insulation:
107 minutes (cotton pad)
107 minutes (sustained flaming)
94 minutes (Thermocouple No. 32 exceeded 180 deg C.)
The test was terminated at 110 minutes.

LIMITATIONS
The results only relate to the behaviour of the specimen of the element of construction underthe particular conditions of test; they are not intended to be the sole criteria for assessing thepotential fire performance of the element in use nor do they reflect the actual behaviour infires.
The specification and interpretation of fire test methods are the subject of ongoingdevelopment and refinement. Changes in associated legislation may also occur. For thesereasons it is recommended that the relevance of test reports over 5 years old should beconsidered by the user. The laboratory that issued the report will be able to offer, on behalf ofthe legal owner, a review of the procedures adopted for a particular test to ensure that theyare consistent with current practices, and if required may endorse the test report.
