UTAH BROADBAND PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Launched Utah’s First Interactive Map

Formed the Utah Broadband Advisory Council

Completed an Extensive Regional Broadband Planning Effort

Hosted a Statewide Broadband Tech Summit

Competed Statewide Surveys to Determine Adoption Trends

Supports economic development and corporate recruitment by identifying and marketing existing infrastructure within the state

Encourages rural economic development by supporting the Governor’s priority to, “increase business opportunities in rural Utah by identifying unserved and underserved high-speed Internet service”

Supports the Governor's objective to increase national and international business by encouraging Utah’s businesses, both urban and rural to compete in markets throughout the world

Promotes the development of broadband infrastructure and capacity to support the increasing demand of integrating technology into the classroom

Supports the initiate to ensure that by 2020, 66% of Utahns will have received a post-secondary degree by 2020, by encouraging e-learning and online courses, making access to college level courses for students in their communities where they live necessary

CONVENE PARTNERS TO INCREASE DEPLOYMENT

Attract more businesses to Utah

• All seven of Utah’s AOGS recommended increasing economic development by tapping into the robust services that exist in their communities

Launch the nations first Commercial Broadband Map

• Display commercial broadband data to support corporate recruitment and business development throughout the state

Teach local communities to market existing infrastructure

MARKET UTAH’S CUTTING EDGE INFRASTRUCTURE

Utah Broadband Project will serve as a state policy advisor for broadband-related public policy issues, especially in relation to federal policy

Encourage federal polices that will improve Utah’s infrastructure, as well as educate state leadership about the impacts that federal changes will have on broadband deployment and providers in Utah

Continue a state-led data verification effort (Utah Broadband Map) to work with the FCC to ensure data collection will meet the needs of Utah’s stakeholders

ADVOCATE FOR UTAH ON A NATIONAL STAGE

Identify Utah’s underserved communities

Help communities increase broadband deployment by implementing best practices such as dig-once policies and additional conduit installation during road construction

Encourage investment in underserved communities

HELP COMMUNITIES INCREASE SPEEDS

Link communities with funding sources

• Work with broadband providers, communities and other stakeholders to seek funding opportunities

Work with public entities and providers to increase statewide coverage

• Promote public-private partnerships and assist by identifying underserved areas of the state

IDENTIFY FUNDING AND PARTNERSHIP MODELS

• Support and partner with UETN to continue connecting schools and libraries

• Increase wireless infrastructure in schools

GIVE UTAH STUDENTS THE TOOLS TO SUCCEED

• Support and partner with UETN to continue connecting health care sites

• Partner with Utah’s FirstNet team to Increase access in rural Utah

CONNECT HEALTH CARE SITES AND FIRST RESPONDERS

Help rural businesses compete in a global marketplace

• Ensure rural Utah business are both connected and competitive

Establish a program to help businesses get online

• Partner with GOED’s Rural Development Office to develop a series of workshops to help rural Utah businesses create a website or other online presence

Study the impacts of businesses connectivity in rural Utah

• The Utah Broadband Project will collect data on what types of online services are used and what the impacts it has on the business

LINK RURAL UTAH TO A GLOBAL MARKETPLACE
