Arts
Role In
Childhood
Development
Intro
Besides an English Class or other few and far
between electives, students do not possess an
accessibility to mediums catered towards
expressions, character development, and
abstract intellect. Art students are four times
more likely to be recognized for academic
achievement and countries that possess the
highest math and science test scores(Japan,
Hungary, The Netherlands etc.) have made art
programs mandatory (Arts in Education). By
taking an initiative to become more aggressive
in the funding and organization of art
education, the American government can
improve a national quality found in science,
math, and humanities.
Benefits
Early on in life, preschoolers and
elementary students are presented
opportunities to bulk up their
vocabulary when learning about art
by being exposed to more
sophisticated terms for colors,
techniques, practices, movements,
and shapes (Speech Development)
Young children can take the values
they have learned in art and apply
them to mathematics to gain a more
solid understanding of the material
given.
Art can teach a toddler, unaware of
humanitys intricacies, that different
ethnic groups, subcultures, and
demographics all act, speak, and
look a particular way (cultural
awareness)
-
According to a compilation of
studies on the impact of arts on
learning, students who participate
in the arts outperform their peers
on virtually every measure.
Researchers found that
Sustained Learning in music
and theater correlates to great
success in math and reading, and
students from lower
socioeconomic backgrounds see
the greatest benefits.
-Americans for the Arts
The artist is a receptacle for emotions that
come from all over the place: from the sky,
from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a
passing shape, from a spider's web.
