Who we areThe ELI staff is dedicated to making sure you have the best possible experience while you are at UM. Our teachers are highly qualified, have many years of ESL teaching experience, and many have taught internationally.
At ELI we believe learning should be a personal experience. As such, our class sizes are small with a low student-teacher ratio to ensure that each student receives the time and attention they deserve.
Where we areMontana is known as “The Last Best Place” for a reason. We have everything! In Missoula students can ski, hike, fish, rock climb, kayak, raft, camp, go to the mall, catch a movie, check out a play, attend a concert, hang out at a coffee bar, or take a walk along the Clark Fork river, which runs through the heart of Missoula.
Our Short Term ProgramsSince 1988, the English Language Institute has offered short-term programs to groups of international students and educators. The ELI specializes in designing programs to fit specific curricular and scheduling needs. Past short-term programs have been developed for non-native teachers of English and nurses. A short term ELI program at The University of Montana typically has the following traits:
• designed for the needs of the group • two to eight weeks in duration • up to twenty hours of class per week • a minimum of ten participants • extra-curricular activities and trips • opportunities to integrate into the local
community
ELI students go on outings each semester, which in the past
have included lake side picnics, horseback riding, cross country skiing, bowling, and ice skating!
What We DoThe English Language Institute (ELI) provides intensive English language learning to students from all over the world. Each week students attend 20 hours of class, and benefit from a range of practical, interactive courses that focus on academic skills, and English for Academic Purposes.
While attending ELI, students have access to all the academic and recreational services, as well as on campus housing at the University of Montana (UM).
ELI students can be granted conditional admissions to the University of Montana while working towards meeting TOEFLrequirements for undergraduate admission.
Ask us about our new program for international graduate students, our Pre-Masters Bridge Program, which will prepare graduate level students for acceptance at the University of Montana or other higher educational institutions in the United States. This program will begin in the summer of 2013.
