“Such events are useful in the sense that you can address the people who actually build the buildings and propose new ideas and new approaches, introduce concepts like performance based issues. If you look at the number of countries that have introduced performance based codes, it’s like 8 countries in the

world. So it’s very new. Denmark is a small country and we do a lot of jobs abroad. We want to be first in new technology.

There’s no doubt in my mind that performance based codes is the future, we’ve just started it early. It’s a universal language. Because a fire in Romania will develop and the smoke will spread the same way as in Denmark. The whole idea is that we have one language to describe and analyse fire and fire safety. What does it take to make this transition? The keyword here is education. And here is where the conference comes in. I come and tell that there’s a different way to do it and of course people are curious. They experience the same agony that we did twenty years ago because we had these requirements that we didn’t understand. There’s another way.”
