nEnhance patient care and treatment at

    GHTM

The Fellowship programme is conducted at GHTM, Chennai which is one of Asia's largest

HIV/AIDS care centres with over 30,,000 HIV patients registered in 2008, over 10,000 of them

receiving ART. One of the first NACO (National AIDS Control Organisation) designated Centres of

Excellence (CoE), GHTM is a national HIV

Specialists and Medical Officers per year.

The Fellowship Programme is structured around a comprehensive curriculum that includes didactic

sessions and practicum experiences in inpatient wards and outpatient departments. The HIV

Fellowship curriculum consists of six core components:

nClinical Care & Treatment of HIV

    nEpidemiology and Research Methodology

    nPublic Health Systems

    nPsychosocial and Behavioural Issues

    nManagement and Leadership Skills

    nTraining and Presentation Skills

The HIV Fellowship is a comprehensive programme with strong emphasis on adult learning

principles and participatory learning approaches used by I-TECH world-wide. The programme

facilitates learning through a variety of experiences such as:

    1. Hands-on Patient Care:

Fellows enrolled on the programme get an opportunity to provide direct patient care six days a week.

Along with GHTM doctors, each Fellow manages about 40 inpatients and over 60 outpatients per

day in various departments. Rotational postings in the wards, outpatient departments, laboratory,

counselling centre, operation theatre, and intensive care unit expose the Fellows to a myriad of HIV

cases leading to an unparalleled learning experience. At the end of the 12 months, each Fellow will
