What is the Focus Program?
The Focus Program is an exciting way for you to make the most of your liberal education at Duke University! Through the FocusProgram you will be exposed to ideas from the vantage point of
different disciplines across thehumanities, natural sciencesand social sciences.
You can choose froma wide variety of learning com-munities in the Focus Program.Courses in each cluster fulfillDuke’s general education cur-riculum requirements and maycontribute to your major, minoror certificate. The possibilitiesare wide open, regardless of your major!
Many courses are offered exclusively through the Focus Program. Youwill study in small seminars — only 15 students per class —with some of ourmost distinguished faculty. You and your faculty will be able to develop acomfortable interaction which continues throughout your academic life andlater career.
Each Focus cluster creates a unique learning community in the EastCampus residence halls. You will have friends from across the campus, aswell as those within your cluster!
The Focus Program will provide opportunities for you to take your learn-ing beyond the Duke campus and gain valuable, hands-on experience. Fieldwork, faculty/student research, research-service learning and volunteer workare just a few options. You will have an opportunity to make a difference onlocal, regional and global issues.
