About the District

Edison Local Schools is a district located in north

central Ohio in Erie and Huron counties, serving the

municipalities of Berlin Heights and Milan, including

parts of Berlin, Florence, Huron, Milan, Norwalk, Ox-

ford, Perkins and Vermilion townships. The district

serves 1681 students in grades Pre-K through 12 in

one elementary school, one middle school and one

high school.

The Ohio Department of Education has rated the

district Excellent for seven consecutive years, having

met 25 out of 26 performance indicators. Tradition-

ally, Edison students have been recognized for ad-

vanced aca- demic,

artistic and musical

scholarship, with gradu-

ates attend- ing some

of the finest higher

educational institutions

in the nation. Likewise,

the district’s teaching

professionals have been recognized by numerous or-

ganizations for exemplary educational service.

About the Communities

The Edison Local School District is centrally located

between the two major cities of Toledo and Cleveland

along the north coast of Lake Erie. The district is in

the vicinity of acclaimed vacation spot Cedar Point

Amusement Park, Kalahari Resorts, Great Wolf Lodge

and the Lake Erie Islands. The communities of Berlin

Heights and Milan are classic examples of lifestyles

found in rural and small-

town America.

on State Route 61 be-

tween Norwalk and

Vermilion. It is recog-

nized for the Berlin

Edison Local School District is searching for a chief fiscal

officer with sound financial background, leadership capa-

bilities, unquestionable honesty and integrity, a commit-

ment to professional growth, and outstanding interper-

sonal and communication skills. Applicants must hold a

valid Ohio School Treasurer’s license.

The candidate must possess the following:

• The skill and ability to work effectively with the

board and superintendent as a contributing mem-

ber of the entire management team and work well

with the staff and community.

• A comprehensive understanding of Ohio school

law, finance and regulations, including up-to-date

knowledge of the legislative landscape as it relates

to school finance.

• The ability to balance the legal, judicial and financial

requirements of the district with the needs of the

students and desires of the community.

• Sophisticated and demonstrated experience in the

general areas of accounting and financial reporting,

financial forecasting and budgeting, cash and asset

management, finance and investments, and supervi-

sion of payroll, purchasing and accounts payable.

• The skill to articulate the complex financial data in a

manner that is understood and the ability to main-

tain fiscal credibility.

• Expertise in the effective, efficient use and admini-

stration of grant funds to benefit the district initia-

tives and financial position.

• A proven track record with school management

skills in the area of collective bargaining and insur-

ance management.

• Excellent analytical, listening, verbal and written

communication skills, with the ability to frankly, yet

diplomatically, convey pertinent information to the

board, superintendent, staff and community.

basket, and has

made them the

1858, using thinly

peeled slices of

wood that are just

malleable enough

to weave into baskets. Local attractions include

family-style restaurants, garden and landscape

nurseries, family-owned and operated orchards

and vineyards, and a beautiful winery overlook-

ing Lake Erie.

Milan is located just south of the Ohio Turnpike

and is the birthplace of Thomas Alva Edison,

America’s greatest inventor. Notoriety of the

community is central to the Edison Birthplace

Museum, which includes a seven-building com-

plex. The tree-lined streets of the village high-

light historically restored homes. The down-

town square offers a gazebo, antique stores,

various shops and eateries to browse and enjoy.

Milan recently received national recognition

through the unanimous nomination for place-

ment of a statue of Thomas Alva Edison in the

National Statuary Hall Collection at the U.S.
